I've owned a couple Rectifier's and Mark IV. I now own a 395 simul class power amp. Maybe it's just me but it seems like there presence control goes from nothing to a shit load within an 1/8th of a turn on the knob. Makes it tough for me to tune in the presence. . Have any of you found this to be true?

They're designed that way due to the amount of gain they have. If you crank the gain, you need a more presence to tighten it up. If you run the gain low, you need little to no presence on a Boogie. On my Rectifier, I run the Modern gain at 3:30 or so with a 10:00 presence, and my gain on Vintage is just about maxed with a 12:00 presence. It stays tight that way. That might seem like too much gain, but all my pickups are between 7 and 9K. Very low output. But yes, Boogies have a lot of presence, along with a lot of gain.

My pres only is high on the channel that i have the treble rolled off and thats set at 11 oclock

normally my pres doesn't go above 9 oclock.

Brae

2.5 to 3 on my III, 9 o'clock on my Recto (my treble knob is turned off on my vintage channel)

Presence and treble on my dual Recto never go past 10-11 oclock on the dial.

i don't know...on my markIII, it stays at zero...any amount is too much.

Ahhh.... I'm still new to my Mark III, is that where some of the "scratch" is coming from? I don't believe it's very high right now, but I'm on holiday and can't check it.

possibly...if i turn my presence up at all, i would have to drop my terble waaaaay down. i actually tried once but it sounded weird to me. i decided to turn the presence all the way down and jack up the treble, plus utilize the treble sliders on the eq as well.

now that i think of it tho, i had the presence on my 5150 really low too. maybe my ears are fukt? maybe they jus don't jive with the presence knob well? who knows, but i played my amp last night and it sounded fukken amazing.

Start with your bass and mid controls, get them where you like it. Then add treble just up to the point where you think just a little more will be perfect. Then bring in the presense to get the Recto tone you want. The presense control on a Recto affects a different frequency range than most amps.
