That sounds great! What's the signal chain and gear setup?

Thanks! It's been about 1.5 years or so, but off the top of my head...

It was a LP loaded with EMG's, an 81 in the bridge. The head was one of my 2 Channel Dual Rectos being boosted by a Maxon OD808. The cab was a Mesa (Traditional, Straight) 4X12 w/V30's. I can dig up exact settings is you want, I usually keep track of all that stuff.

You'll actually laugh at the signal chain. This was as cheap as it gets since it was a DIY type of recording. The guitars were tracked with a an SM58 with the pop filter removed (because we didn't have a 57 at that time) into an old Tascam USB interface that we bought for $50 and into a laptop running Audition 1.0 - Doesn't get much cheaper than that, maybe $100 worth or recording gear?

Thanks for the info!

Haha, whatever works dude! I like it because it isn't the typical scooped, mushy Recto tone! If you have the time, settings would be nice...I plan on getting one very soon.

No prob! Yeah, I don't go for the ultra scooped, cranked bass, mushy type of Recto sound a lot of people like. I'll dig up the settings and post them tomorrow.

We have almost the exact same dual recto and a few weeks ago, I tried the trick where you turn off the treble and just use the presence control.

I think it sounds bad ass! To me it sounds tighter. I don't know if it's in my head or what, but I'm really liking it!

It's in your head... :D J/K I've heard lot of guys try that out and like it, though I think they were turning off the Presence and using only the Treble.

And mightyjoeyoungxnj - here's the settings for that clip. I'm a pack rat with settings we used over time:

2 Channel Mesa Dual Rectifier
Modern Red Channel/Bold/Diodes
Volume - 9:30 to 10:00
Treble - 11:00
Mids - 12 Noon
Bass - 10:00
Presence - 1:00
Gain - 12 Noon

Boosted by a Maxon OD808:

Output - "Max"
Tone - 12 Noon
Gain - "Off"

EMG 81 in the bridge of a LP, high gain JJ ECC83's in the preamp and standard Sovtek 5881/6L6's in the power amp. Mesa (Traditional/Straight) 4X12 w/V30's. I'm so anal about keeping a log of what we did, I even have a pic of the cab marked off where we had the mic positioned...

Haha, it never hurts to document everything dude. Thanks for the settings! Gonna try em out when I finally own a Recto.

No prob! The JJ's and the Sovteks are both dark tubes that roll off some of the high end, so if you're using brighter tubes, you may want to back off the highs some. That's EQ'd for cutting through with the band and on tape, so you may want to tweak it a little differently if playing by yourself too.
