Anyone ever own one? I remember seeing them years ago in GC's but don't remember if I ever played one. This guys here gets some great tones and rips in between the talking.

Worked in a store that sold Mesa when these were new. Could never get a decent snappy overdrive out of it. The guys vid reminds me of it. You always wanted it to get a little brighter and tighter but it just doesn't have that in there stock. I wouldn't be surprised that with some mods it could be nice. We called the combo the "backbreaker". It was the heaviest combo I've ever tried to lift.

I wouldn't think twice about choosing a Lonestar or an Electrodyne over that amp.

We used to call that amp the "Wallet Breaker"- very high price when you're a teenager cruising Guitar Center. I was afraid to even plug in! I never did get to play through one...

had it. hated it.

traded it.

think about getting one agian though and modding it.

mine was 000150

Third eye blind's debut album was recorded on a heartbreaker, played in stereo with an AC30. The tone on that album is out of this world! I'd love to play one someday.

I spent a bit of time with one around '96 or so when a friend had it. Moreso than any other Mesa amp in my experience, this one needed to be cranked up to get to the good stuff...otherwise it sounded kind of undefined, dull, even dark/muddy IIRC. Once you lit it up though, it really came to life...a huge, somewhat British-inspired tone that would rattle your fillings.
I'm not sure if it's still the case, but Tom Anderson had one in his office that he used to demo all guitars before they left the shop.

Long time since i played through one. Remembering it was a warmer sound and not a ton of gain. Think this is an amp Prince used
