I'm in love with the cleans I hear from the Lonestar in videos etc...Even the el84 Lonestar Special sounds really good to me. I wish I had somewhere to try one....
But i've been thinking, Can the Mesa Mark 5:25 be dialed in for similar tones? I guess it would compare more with the Lonestar Special being that it's el84..
A Lonestar for cleans and then pedals for whatever gain would be great I think.
But the Mark 5:25 seems to be a more versatile amp for me if the cleans can get juicy enough.....

appreciate any thoughts on the matter

Has a Lonestar Classic 2x12 combo for some time. Yes the clean is top shelf and the lead channel was easily one of the most under-rated lead channels I've ever played. I loved that amp. Just thought I "needed" something else and sold it. Great amp.

I gig with a Lone Star. It's freakin' awesome, amazing cleans, takes pedals very well. Lead channel is as mentioned, definitely underrated. It's never going to get to the gain levels of some of the other Mesa stuff but boosted w\a TS it gets plenty heavy for the stuff we cover. I usually just use the dirty channel as a slightly hairier\gritty clean channel and hit it with pedals.

About to retube this amp, excited to hear the difference!

I believe the Express Plus models have the Lonestar voicing on the clean channel.

hmm...very interesting!

I have played the Express 5/50 (?) combo. Hell of an amp. You should absolute test that one since it is very versatile. All three channels are top notch.

The Lonestar is a killer amp both clean and dirty. I had the regular non-classic version and could get some nice high gain tones with a Tubescreamer.

Lonestar Special over the Mark V25 in my opinion. The Mark V 25 is a bit boxier sounding Mark V, but it has nice cleans and overdrive. However, the Lonstar and Lonstar Special have immaculate cleans, but the gain doesn't slack either. Even though the gain is a bit smoother, classier sounding, you can still rock really hard with those amps with a boost or mild overdrive. There is not as much versatility in the Lonestar as the the Mark V, but they're versatile amps on their own. The Mark V 25 has a nice clean/crunch and an exceptional Xtreme mode, but Mark IV and II C don't have the same mojo the full Mark V has... in my opinion. Every channel of the Lonestar sounds awesome.

Just retubed my Lonestar last night. Holy shit it's a great amp!
