I am considering getting a mark iii again, there is something i NEED to clarify.

I see pics of one particular mark iii head, it has el 34s in the outer sockets but is NOT simul class/class A as there is no switch on the back. It has graph eq and a full/half power switch on the front. serial number is in the 19ish area so i am THINKING it is a red stripe or late purple, however there is no indication on the top left as it has been weared off from time.

Can someone here help me out? Does all this info add up or make sense??

It is likely a conversion and the full/half power switch is the simul-class/Class A switch now.

Thanks guys,

Zachman, the full/half power switch is on the front though next to standby / power etc. How could it be the same thing? The amp has el34s and 6l6s so i am just confused..

I think they used the same faceplates for Simul-Class and 100/60W amps. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Guitargoat, excuse my ignorance, but what are you driving at? Are you saying this IS a simul class/class a option ? I don't think i am following here... i don't know the whole ordeal with mark iii's history but i know the difference in stripes etc. I just don't have a thorough understanding on if this is an anomaly or regular production without simul class option and instead it is the full power/variac power option?

I have a Mk 3 that I bought new around 1989, it has the 1/2 power switch on the front but no Simul-class switch on the back, but there is a Simul-class label on the the back of the amp. I spoke to Mesa back in the day and they said I could run both el34 & 6l6 mixed as you mentioned. I ran that tube combo for a long time with no problems. I think that my amp is a 60/100 watt.

Ya... My MKIII Coliseum (same thing basically, but 180 Watts-- Different Output transformer-- a MONSTER) does too, but NO simul-Class switch on rear. ALWAYS in Simul-Class mode, w/ the Coliseum. Also the EL34's go in the middle slots on my amp. The MKIII Simul-Class amps run at 75 Watts when using Simul-Class operation, and 12 Watts in Class A operation. The NON-simul-Class amps are 100/60
