Mesa Mark VII IIC vs JP2C High Gain

I like the first one more which I think is the VII
I prefer the VII also. I had to spend too much time to get the JP2C similar.

There is audio whiplash going from the clip of the VII to the JP2C. I have to let my ears adjust before listening to the JP2C clip to really hear its quality. Which is pretty good IMO.

They are definitely different.

If only I had a reissue here to try.

Cool comparison. I’m really enjoying my VII. I switch between the 2CP on channel 3 and the VII on channel 2. Love both of those. But every mode on every channel is pretty good on the VII. It’s my 1st and only Mark series and no regrets.

cool clips, thanks for the comparison! I wondered why the IIC RI was almost as much as the JP, is the IIC mode on the JP what everyone buys it for?

It’s actually its only mode really, apart from the Shred setting.

I had thought this but when doing the clip ch2 was a little different from 3. In eq at least.
It’s just a crunch setting of the same basic circuit. Probably does have a slightly different EQ curve to it. I just wouldn’t consider it a different “mode” like on the V or VII. It’s like the III having the R2 for a rock rhythm channel but with more gain available.
When I first played a JP-2C I was kind of underwhelmed with it at the time but I got to play one today after it having been some time and gotta say it sounded pretty good to me. I didn’t care for a VII I tried when they came out, so maybe I’ll like that in 2 years as well. 🙂

With the feature set the JP has, the reissue would have to sound markedly better to not get a used JP instead.

Haven’t played the JP2C. Seems a bit dark vs other Marks and according to GJgo it doesn’t have the “push” like older Marks.

It’s the problem with stores. You can’t really turn them up like they need to be. The particular store is my favorite (and small) and I like the guys there. I try not to crank up an amp I know there’s no way I can afford, unless I’m doing a comparison to aid in a purchase decision. They also had a MKV:35 there and you could tell when bumping the master a little, it just wanted to fill out and get up and go.

Both sound cool! I agree with others that the second clip sounded more like what I'd expect from a Mark amp

I don't know which is which, but the second sounds better to me. It's more balanced in the mids and has more sharp cut to it. The first is a bit honky sounding for metal rhythms, IMO, but would work nicely for leads.

The JP2C was channel 2 EQ 1.

The VII was set how it was when I turned it on. It could definitely get closer to the JP2C but that was as close to the VII I could get the JP at these settings.
