Yup, MK IIC+ slaved into a Marshall JCM 800 thru 65w Celestions + a Boogie cab with EVs ! Then quadruple tracked with 3 mics per track !

BTW I once played a C+ (with the superior 105 transformer) with a "special" factory mod and it NAILED the Metallica tone to a T. This amp was about 95 % as fast and responsive as the Larry !
All those other Mark series amps can get similar lead tones to the C+, but absolutely DO NOT get the rhythm thickness that Metallica's C+ had.

I'm going to Mike's pretty soon to test his latest creation. Maybe we can do the trade then ? I can stop by on the way back perhaps.

Also, remember that this song was recorded with the guitars/bass tuned a whole step down. This adds to the thickness of the track.

Their amps have the ++ mod, but all it really does is add more gain, and it's actually thinner instead of thicker sounding. That's what Mike B. told me, but he's told a lot of people a lot of things.

The 105 is preferred for some things because of the extra headroom, but the Export trannies are the most sought after probably because they're a little more rare. They're all great sounding amps though IMHO.

Not true at all. I owned a IIC+ for years and several of my friends have owned a couple. The Mark III i have right now has more gain and thickness than probably any IIC+ i have heard, owned, or played. In fact, i feel the Mark IV sounds closer to the IIC+ than the III's do. The III's have their own level of angry tone to them IMHO. I NEVER need an OD pedal for any Metallica tone.

Yeah, I'm aware of the ++ mod, but the guy who's amp I tried was actually at the Mesa factory and Mike B did the mod right in front of him and I believe it entailed a bit more than just gain. I'm also aware Mike B says different things to different people :aww:

Anyway I still feel the C+'s have a certain tone and feel the other Marks can't match, no offense to those that think otherwise.
