I've seen people describe MHG as diezel/slo type but also as BOGNER XTC type, in my experience the Slo voicing is not similar to the Bogner voicing..

I love the XTC's voicing, huge, dark, smooth and juicy, will the MHG deliver that?

I'm not so fond of the SLOs voicing (wich can be trebly for my tastes) and I'm afraid that the EG5 is closer to that..

BTW, I play with a fusion trio (guitar, bass and drums) so there is no other guitarist, do you think it will cut well?

I'm think I'm (finally) getting a MOD50 with EG3/4, BMAN and MHG.. what do you think?

huge, dark, smooth and juicy.....is how I would describe my SL2 and EG5 modules if tweaked correctly.

I have a Mod 50 and use the SL2 for my overdrive channels. It reminds me of the blue and red channel of the Bogner XTC I used to have. The XTC isnt super high gain and has a compressed feel. The SL2 sounds like a closer match to the XTC to my ears

Have you compared the SL2 to the EG3/4? I get the feeling that the EG3/4 is just a darkened SL2.. is that true?

I would say the EG3/4 is a darkend and smoothend SL2 in everyway both are killer!

I have both an EG3 and an SM4 (hot-rodded EG4) in single channel modules. They are smokey and rich, both great for leads and rhythm. I have Randall JTM, Plexi and SL+ modules that are modded by Pete Turley and the Eggie's sit nicely in that Marshall range of tones. Just a little darker and smoother. When I want Marshall tone, but not as aggressive and in your face the EG3 and SM4 are what I go to.

Ive been starting to get this vibe as well, especially through v30s.

The MHG has a strange mid range thing goin on that puts it in its own little world. While I do like the sound, I don't think its XTC territory. It is compressed like the Bogner but the frequencies are all different. EG-5 reminds me somewhat of the red channel on XTC.

I've currently got the EG5 loaded in my MOD50. I've previously owned Rodded Marshalls and an Avenger (with SLO tranny). Personally, I found the Avenger to be a "one trick pony"...but it was quite a cool trick! It has a great "rodded Marshall" vibe, but with a bit more cut. I don't think that my EG5 sounds exactly like the Avenger—it has a bit more mids in my opinion—but it can definitely get that vibe. If you're not a fan of that SLO sound, you might not want the EG5.

+1....

Interesting.....some of you are saying the SL2 and EG5 can get Bogner XTC type tones. With that in mind, it may be pointlesss for my to get a Pete modded Randall XTC module. I may instead look to an EG3/4.

While we are comparing Bogner sounds to Modules
Which unit would sound closest to the Bogner Shiva
I am suspecting SL2, but would be happy to hear your experiences

The Shiva had been on my shortlist of amps but I think I would rather have an M4 and power amp (and a Mod 50 too when funds allow)

My current amp is a Marshall JCM800 2205 split channel model and I believe the SL2 would be similar to the lead channel (only WAY better)....hence my eagerness to get started with Egnater stuff

The other guitar player in my band has a Shiva and I use SL2 most of the time. The tone is pretty similar. But the Shiva has to be pretty loud, otherwise its pretty fizzy. And SL2 has more gain. But they are close, for sure.
