MHG module needs some love!

A lot of guys have been asking me about this module since I posted my video a few days ago. A friend of mine has a cover band and they came in my studio to record a demo. He ended up using my rig and loved the MHG. He is a fantastic player. I'm sure you will know this song.

This is a first mix and the levels are not quite right, but all guitar, including leads is MHG. For the parts where it is just guitar I actually rolled the gain back to about 10 o'clock while he was playing and then rolled it up to 2 o'clock when the drums kicked in. There is no EQ at all on the guitars. That's the way it was recorded.

Holy cow, nice lead playing. He is really good. Is that how the original solo goes? I forget who wrote this song.

Now you have me wanting another MHG. I was going to get an EG5 and have it modded by Friedman but damn that MHG is pretty sick. This classic to modern.

No, I'm pretty sure the original didn't have any sweep picking. LOL. But it should have!!!! Yeah, he is pretty good. I think maybe the Outfield did that song but I can't remember. The MHG is highly underrated.

Wow that ending was NOT at all what I expected! I dug it in the fact that its completely ridiculous and over the top! Its not at all what I would have done with this song, but thats what makes it a cool surprise. Very, very sick style lead playing at the end for sure! MHG sounds really good here. It has that Vai "Alien Love Secrets" XTC style tone.

It is the Outfield and is one of my favorite songs actually.

I hope this doesnt make me sound like a dick because I really am saying this to be helpful, but you should probably tune or redo the vocals if they're going to use this to try to get cover gigs. The vocals especially in the verses and the last note are very rough and hard to listen to. Sorry if that sounds harsh, just trying to be honest and helpful.

You don't sound like a dick at all. There are a couple "pitchy" thing going on. I've not done any editing or pitch correction yet. I think it sticks out more because the vocals are mixed really loud in the mix, especially for the screams at the end.

"I dont know dog... you can definitely can blow it out tha box 'cause we've seen you sing the phonebook and Ive always been a huge fan, but this was not good dude. Very pitchy in spots. It just wasnt good for me at all, but good lookin out!."

Bill, yeah, the mix will help alot. You said in your original post that it was first mix so I wasnt really going to comment on that, but like you said the vocals being too loud play a part.

What do you use to tune vocals, Autotune?

Gotta love Antares Autotune. Best in the biz. Been using it for years!

Definitely fix the vocals. The guitar sounds fantastic and the long outtro is way cooler than anything I can come up with or even play. He needs to get the intro rhythm right though. Your Love is a guaranteed winner, pack the dance floor song (like Jessies Girl, Bad Name and Don't Stop Believin' - you gotta be willing to bring the cheese) but to get the girls up and dancing they have to recognize the song in the first measure. Just a nit but that intro rhythm part is the foundation for the rest of the song.

Definitely a very cool take on the guitar portion of the song.
