Mid Cut question

Ok so I played the Herbert. To me it lacks the bite of a 800 which I play or a 5153 but it was cool. Best cleans period.
My question is the mid cut. Does this make it cut through or does it cut out the mids ala Metallica stuff?

it cuts the 800 freq (I believe) and if you turn it up a lot I'll give you a VERY scooped tone, but from what I've heard the boys around here comment, having the mid cut around 8:30 (which is not much) makes everything "tighter" and full sounding. Plus the mid cut in the clean channel seems to rule.

I don't own a Herbie, but those are the comments I've read around here.

Were you playing it (Herbert) or was someone else?

No, my old manual stated 400 HZ. So scooping it takes out more lower midrange than anything else, ensuring the amp never gets that typical can of bees scooped tone popular in the late 80's/early 90s.

I played it at GC for awhile. I am not into the Nu Metal midscoop by any means. But it seemed to sound like crap with it off? So by having both knobs turned down to 8:30 I would still be in cutting through mix ala Marshall kind of?

Here is a homework for you. Go back to GC, turn to ch2 in "-" position, gain 3:00, volume 10, BMT-12, Presence, Deep 12, midcut i-11, v1, master 12:00(turn it up little by little. If the room is so small that you are not able to get that high then you will never know why I like the Herbert so much). Then come back & post your experience.

WARNING! Stay away from the front of the cabinet.

More importantly, what cabinet were you using with it?

i have the mid-cut always around 10:30-11:00, on clean, rythm, and lead, mids a bit cranked, and it cuts through like a knife. also "my" sound is nowhere near newmetal-scoopy-doopy-doo.

Like scottph said...check them!

What you heard without midcut are the mids! And we need mids!

i like mid cut but i like it to where its almost off, like the 8-8:30 range. level at 12:30. really good sounds living in that area

maybe you played a Diezel thinking it was a Marshall, or wanting it to be a MArshall.....and they're NOT the same

Well said Joey

Yes thats right Joey!

If I dont like an amp i dont like it. And i don´t understand people who want marshalls and want a rectifier to sound like that.
And for me there is no amp which could replace my Herbert. There are many many awesome sounding amp, but who cares?! I´ve got one of them.

I did the whole 8:30/12:30 thing and wasnt all that tonally impressed. Not to say it doesnt work for you, i just didnt personally feel that much of a difference and felt no need to even use it in that case. For a while i think i didnt even notice the difference. but a few weeks ago i messed with it accidentally and set the intensity at 10 and the level at 2:30ish. It sounded alot tighter to me and i really dug it. So i think im sticking to this setting now.

I agree with many- i mostly have the mid-cut feature engaged but not on higher intensity than about 9 o clock- that level makes it sound so tight without getting that horrible empty 'nu metal' sound about it...
