MIDI footswitch?

I've never had a desire to get on stage until recently. Not feeling like a rockstar at all, but I feel like I've got a lot built up inside & I feel like jumping on stage & do some serious damage my Diezels. So there is a chance that I'll be starting a band soon & in case this happens I'll be taking my VH4 & Herbert running simultaneously as my rig.

The question I have is if I can control both amps with a single footswitch & if yes, then which would be a reasonable priced one?

yess you can use midi with both amps at the same time thats why there is midi in and thru on the amp.
as for a cheap one i dont really know iam using a boss fc-50 with my herbie just to switch channels when iam rocking with the band.
it cost me 150 bucks on ebay it works great but might be a little small for some people.

Will you be running any effects----with both of the rigs or just one of them? Just thinking here  Ideas for ya.
Price and usability.

EFX/Delay with just one, the rest will just go in front of the amp.

Low Cost
Behringer F 101B
Tech 21 Midi Moose
Rolls Midi Buddy
Rocktron Midi Mate

Higher Cost
Roland FC 300
Engl Z-9, -10, -12
Diezel Columbus

I'm sick of looking for more, but there are more. Lots of good options.

voodoo labs' ground control pro is the best. it works great by itself and the options for expansion are nearly unlimited. jmho...

I would not necessarily say that that VoodooLab GCP is the best, but it is definitely extremely good (I use one as well.) At least it is reasonably priced.

Depending on your price range, other very good options are e.g. Axess Electronics, Skrydstrup and Paul Lenders.

Want even more ? :

* Liquid foot
* Not released yet: Fractal MFC101

I would vote for Gaspedal and Axess FX1... and the future Fractal's looks nice (cheaper and smaller). These are more pro pedalboards, that will fits all your needs for the rest of your life (adding more effects and more complex rigs... ;) I'm on the same boat, need a Pedalboard but I need it NOW !!! ... Our Gig doesnt wait !!!

Good Luck with your project ;)

If you need only simple setup with few presets per song I would recommend Axess MFC5 (see link bellow).

That is an extremely good, simple, "cheap" and durable MIDI pedal. With that pedal you would have 27 banks all having 3 presets each. In addition to those three presets (per bank) you would have a very handy global preset available at any time (i.e. main rythm sound). Thus, basically you would have four presets in relation to VH4's four channels. That would be my choice if you do not have excessive amounts of other FX-units etc.

Believe me, the Behringer FCB 1010 is all you'll ever need, even if it looks a little cheap. It's sturdy and reliable. Never had any issues with it. Even has two switching outputs.
And the price is unbeatable. If looks don't count, go for one of these.

I had major problems with mine, but it was from the first production batch so that might have some impact here. I would definitely buy one of those for home use, but Im not exactly sure would I trust it on a gig due to the previous negative experiences.

The price is really keen  .

I bought a FCB 1010 for $65 on ebay. Works great with my Herbert. It's been really sturdy and I've gigged with it and moved it all over the place. Real simple to mod it to use phantom power via midi from the amp as well. Can't go wrong with it for the price. It also has 2 relays on it to control manual switches. I've been thinking of doing the channel 2 +/- footswitch mod and control that from one of the relays on the FCB 1010 also. The FCB 1010 has worked well with my other rack gear too, though I must confess, I don't use the rack gear much so it's seen limited time there.

Just ordered me the midi switcher from Axess Electronics (http://www.axess-electronics.com). The switcher and 5 pin cable was about $320 US. Compact units these are and don't take up much real estate on your pedal board. I also own a Ground Control Pro from Voodoo Labs. Too big for my use as I don't like rack effects anymore with all the tone robbing, noise and all the wiring complexities. If you are into those though, the GCX is probably a better choice. Easy to program.

My 2 cents...

I use the Roland FC-300 with my VH4 and G-force. It`s very easy to use and robust enough to be at home on stage  A Voodoolab Ground control Pro is very very yummy but also very expensive  But I don`t need all the funtions it has. Depends on the complexity of you rack (and your purse). :D

A Voodoo labs GCX plus Ground control pro would do it. GCX is meant to be a pedal FX switcher but can also be used as an amp switcher. I used the pro for a while when I had a rack but sold it when I sold my boogie rack. Now I like the old smaller Ground controls and have two, one for the Vh4 and one for the VH4S ;)\

Every week when we practice I bring the Vh4S (in it's flight case of course) run a Boss Super Chorus and Boss Tuner in channel insert one on top of the amp and use the GC. I haaaaaaate wires and pedals and all the hum and bad grounds I have had problems with. Only thin I may add is a Delay for channel 4. I need to build a small pedal box basically for the top of the VH4(s) heads.

Sean - here's what I did at one point for what you are planning....Order up a 14" ATA rack case with 4 units and get the 2U slide out drawer in it. Put your Furman or whatever power supply you use in it. Works great and all your wires stay in it. Quick to rig up and rig down.

Thanks man! Yeah right now I dont use a furman or anything. I just have the two pedals and power them with once AC adapter with the extra plus from the tuner to power the pedals on top. So I really just need two power outlets, or when we are at the studio I just the power strip they have on the floor and plug the amp and pedal ac adapter on the strip. So I just need two outlets :)

Any links to get some thing like this? When you say 14", is that the depth I take it? It sucks I wish they had a local place in NYC that you can go in and spec it out. I am assuming I would need a case that, opens from the front and back........then behind it would be room for the two pedals.

I am also probably gonna get the AKG bug wirless to. I had it a long time ago, the old old one and it was great but died after like 7 years. So I got a X2 wireless and it was great, but I sold my rack and sold all the pieces. I dont want the X2 as one the wire died in two days and I hated the battery pack and how it ate up 9 volts. The AKG uses triple A's and was so easy to switch guitars as with my band I have different tunings and it makes switching guitars so fast.

Thanks man!

Sean - all of my cases I have made from Rock Hard Cases (http://www.rockhardcases.com). The guy that owns the place is Mark Dehart. His email is mark@rockhardcases.com and he will build whatever you need. 14" refers to the depth which will sit right on top of your heads. The rack width is always 19". But, you can get a pull out drawer with velcro on it and fix your pedals to it and whatever pedal supply you like as well. I use Voodoo Labs with my stuff. Got my Furman power conditioner/voltage regulator (you need to invest in it with all the gear you have) in it and a Korg tuner. The drawer will take up two rack spaces. It will come with front abd back removable lids. Stuff your wires in there and go

hmmmmmm very tweaked now. I do have an old ADA power conditioner at home I could use in the rack space. But I dont any more racks spaces then that.

I also have to consider I have a small honda accord and has to fit in my front seat LOL. is this a rolling one you are talking about? The VH4S in the ATA case is heavy as bananas

So basically I would need a font/back 14" depth case, with 1 rack space for the conditioner and then a drawer for my Boss Super chorus and Boss tuner? I dont need a rack tuner. Would just add weight and I love my little boss tuner. Wadda ya think? I am taking it he is mad expensive? ;)
