MIDI switching with M4/MOD50 ???

I know I am over-thinking this, but I have gotten myself confused. I am looking to pickup a MIDI footswitch to use with my M4 (at least until the Eganter 8 button switch is available), and I am not sure exactly how the switching works.

In the manual it says that the MIDI notes for direct access to the modules are 56-63, with 64 being a mute.

So, if I get a controller like the Rockman MIDIMate that banks in increments of 10, I assume that means that, even though the controller has 10 buttons, that I will still have to bank up/down to access all of my modules. i.e. I would have to be on the 50-59 bank to get access to the first two modules (56, 57, 58, 59), then I would have to bank up to the 60-69 bank to get access to the next two modules (60, 61, 62, 63).

Is there any way to change this either on the controller or the M4 so that I could get to all the channels without having to bank?

there are 2 common Midi command languages.

PROGRAM CHANGE

and

CONTROL CHANGE

The banks of 10 thing relates to Program change or PC for short

example: you hit pedal 6, M4 will go to Ch. B on the lower left module. assuming your M4 is receiving on the same channel as your pedal is transmitting.

The direct access thing relates to Control Change or CC for short (not to be confused with continuous control from the old ADA MP2 days).

The M4 can use either language, but only one at a time.

ANY midi pedal will transmit program change (PC) commands. simply hit 1-8 to access any of the channels.

from the manual:

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The M4 “reads” the rear panel DIP switch positions only on power up.
Whenever a change is made to any dip switch, the M4 must be powered
off and back on to “read” the change.
DIP SWITCH SETTINGS:
Using a pen or similar pointy device, move the eight small “piano” style
switches up or down according to your specific needs. See below for the
switch functions.
S1 through S4 are used to set the midi channel (1 -16) that the M4 will
receive data on. Move the switch actuators down for on and up for off.
CHAN. S1 S2 S3 S4
1 OFF OFF OFF OFF
2 ON OFF OFF OFF
3 OFF ON OFF OFF
4 ON ON OFF OFF
5 OFF OFF ON OFF
6 ON OFF ON OFF
7 OFF ON ON OFF
8 ON ON ON OFF
9 OFF OFF OFF ON
10 ON OFF OFF ON
11 OFF ON OFF ON
12 ON ON OFF ON
13 OFF OFF ON ON
14 ON OFF ON ON
15 OFF ON ON ON
16 ON ON ON ON
S5 is used to activate the “omni” mode. “Omni” is a special mode that
allows the M4 to receive data on all 16 midi channels simultaneously.
Turning the omni mode on overrides S1 through S4. Set actuator 5 down
to turn the “omni” mode on or up for off.
S6 is the “Program change enable” function. This is the most common
mode of operation that allows the M4 to receive program change (patch)
commands from your midi controller. Set this switch down for on or up for
off.
S7 is the Controller Enable function. This allows instant access to any
module channel using controller (note data) functions.

#58 ……… 2A
#59 ……… 2B
#60 ……… 3A

#64 ……… MUTE ALL
S8 has no function at this time.

OK. So it sounds like as long as I set S6 down/on, and as long as the M4 is on the same channel as the footswitch, or in OMNI mode with S5 down/on, then I should be able to get to all modules on one bank. Thanks.
