I cannot get either one of my 2 (RFX) MidiBuddy's to work on my VH4. They both(using one at a time) power up thru phantom power with a 5-pin midi cable....but my VH4 will not recognize changes sent thru the controller. They work flawlessly on other midi effects(ie: Intellifex changes...etc) so I know there is nothing wrong with the midi-controller itself.

My friend brought over his Diezel COLUMBUS pedal and the my VH4 works perfectly with that as well as my rocktron midi-Xchange.... But I cannot get the Midibuddy to work. I've tried OMNI mode, setting the specific midi channel, etc....but no luck!!!

Does anyone know how to make this work?

Thanks,
Bryan

a) try a different cable
b) push and hold mute while switching any patch on the pedal. The VH4 should recognize the channel and work from this moment with that channel.

Just tried both of your suggestions and neither one makes a difference. I swaped out my 5-pin midi cable and used a 7-pin midi cable. Phantom Power works on both and the midibuddy powers up...but the VH4 won't recognize it. I pushed and held MUTE, hit a patch on the midibuddy...the STORE light immediately goes off when I do that. But when I let go of MUTE and try a patch there is no communication going on.

Any other ideas???

....any other help with this would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone else use the RFX-Midibuddy????

Thanks,
Bryan

Look at the mini dip switches on the back of the midibuddy, what are they set to? Mine are all in the up position. Maybe that helps

When programming I set the midibuddy to the number I want then set the amp to the channel I want, press store and the light blinks, press store again and it's done. I don't use mute at all? Unless I set it to mute.

No, that didn't help either. They are for assigning a specific midi channel. I already tried assiging a specific midi channel on both the VH4 and Midibuddy...still no dice!!

Is there something wrong with my VH4 maybe???

I have used one for the last 2 years or so with no issues. If I remember right, it worked out of the box with no issues..
Olaf mentioned changing cables, you swithched to a 7 pin cable. I don't know if it matters but I always use a 5 pin cable. Try a different 5 pin cable.

It's probably a bad setting on the Midibuddy, neither the head nor the cable are in cause if the RFX is powered by phantom. Do you have the owner manual of the RFX ? The dip switches have to be set in a special position to work with two midi matrix : 0-127 or 1-128. Your other devices probably use the right midi matrix for the Midibuddy. I can't remember how you have to set it, but I had the same configuration and it worked flawlessy when I found the right combination. If you don't have the manual, send me PM with your mail. Hope it helps ;)

Thanks for your post. I do have the manual for the Midibuddy and have tried many combinations with the dip-switches. I even set both the VH4 & Midibuddy to the same midi channel and that didnt help either. I'll keep trying...this is very frustrating though!!

VH4 & Midibuddy don't have to share the same channel. I was in omni mode if I remember correctly. Have you checked the #6 dip-switch position ? It's the key of your problem I guess. Don't forget to power off the unit before switching the dip-switch.
