I like my Bassman....but wonder if I can find better. I hear lots of guys are not big fans of the Bassman mod. How about the Deluxe? something that takes pedals well. Not too bassy.....something that is good for crunchy rhythms as well. When I switch to the Bassman channel two it gets real bassy......but the cleans are good.

Alternatively I could have a friend mod me a Randall module....but then it would be one channel.

One of my ideal cleans is a Blackface - warm, sparkling and sweet on the high end, punchy on the bottom with good definition.

Maybe I'll try a cap mod.

My COD is what you are looking for. I was getting a clean Hiwatt tone out of it for playing Gilmour stuff. Ch B gets overdrive like the SL2 and EG3/4 but with a different flavor. Ch A can also go from clean to over driven also. I used this clean on A and Leads on B alot more than my Bman or T/D.

Do you have example of the COD channel 1? I would think it would lack the big Fender sparkly cleans?

Maybe someone will trade me.

I like the Bassman but looking to try something new...COD, DLX or T/D.

I've got a dual twin I would trade for your Bman. It's aeroic's old twin module, upgraded with the orange drop caps by rockstarnick.

Really on the Twin? Where can I hear clips? I am not super familiar with it.

See if aeroic chimes in. He might have some clips of when he had it. Also check the clips at indoor storm. I think he did a couple of clips with the twin. My studio is totally dissassembled right now, and will probably stay that way for the rest of the week, or I'd do some quick clips for you.

BTW, I've used the COD for cleans as well. It's great if you like mid-heavy clean tones. Probably would be even better with a 5751/ECC81 in V1.

The DLX serves up nice, clean, bright Fender tones. The bottom end is strong but not loose or wooly. If you get a dual DLX, you can set one channel for clean and the other for crunchy.

It takes pedals really, really well. Both my Fulltone OCD and Boss OD-2 overdrive pedals sound fantastic through it, as do the Eventide boxes.

If I were going for a "classic" clean tone I'd go with the DLX over the COD - the COD is it's own special animal.

I would think that the Twin would be a good choice, too, if you're looking for clean headroom out the wazoo.

The DLX is the bomb. I hated it with the TS 5881's. When I put in the TS 6550's it came to life. Big sounding cleans with nice bluesy breakup. I actually like the clean on Channel B better because on my module it's a little bigger sounding. Channel A sounds awesome when pushed because it's a little leaner and doesn't get too bassy at higher gain settings.

Have you tried the TS 6550's? They are a nice bridge between 6L6's and EL34's. I like them the best for my clean and dirty tones. The DLX has plenty of clean headroom. IMO a super clean tone can sound kinda sterile in most situations. The DLX eats up pedals for lunch. My DLS, BB Preamp and Tube Driver all sound great through it.

You're not kidding. They are by far the best sounding tube I've heard in the Mod50. Bruce should ship them with TS 6550's and call it a day.

I thikn I want a DLX in trade for the Bassman. Bruce told me how to mod the Bassman for a tighter low end so will try that tonight. That might solve it. I also noticed using channel B for clean and hitting it with the BB is king! I might like this better than using channel A for clean! Weird.

I know what you mean about super clean being sterile. So is the Deluxe super clean?

I live and die by EL34s so I doubt I'll be changing. I use Tung Sol EL34Bs. I tried Svet 6550s and it gave the amp too much headroom and made it feel more powerful and stiff. I actually prefer lower wattage amps and EL34s. I like that feel.

I think I got it! I talked to Bruce and a friend of mine. They said the input coupling cap at C-6 controls the bass. I cut it in half. I took it from a 1000pf to a 500pf and wow.....nice a tight now and I can actually use the full bass control if I have the bass boosts off! Before even with them off, I got a lot of low end mud in clean and dirty if not careful. Not now! Nice warm, crystal cleans with killer dirty tones. I wonder if a larger Orange Drop cap would make a difference. Honestly I hate modding these things so I have no desire to open it back upo and find out. I like this more than the Xman because I get the tight lows I wanted with the nice cleans without the mid spike of the Xman.
