Might buy a Herbert soon - tell me about MIDI switching

I don't have any experience with MIDI stuff. I'd like to get the Columbus, but I probably won't be able to afford it for a while if I get the Herbert and a cab to go with it. I'll probably end up getting something like the Behringer FCB1010 for switching. As far as the MIDI switchable options go, does each one get a switch, or can one switch control multiple things? I guess what I'm asking is if I can make one switch activate Ch. 3, the FX loop, and mid cut, and then another for Ch. 2, no FX loop, no mid cut?

Ok, another question. What are some good tube combinations to use? In general, I've found myself to not be an EL34 fan in the past.

1 yes, thats exactly what midi does - switching several things at the same time. I'd personally get a midi pedal which can run off phantom power (no power supply for the pedal needed) like Nobels MF-1 (and others)

2 - thats a question of taste. You can put (pairwise) whatever you like into it and mix pairs.
EL34, 6L6, 6550, KT66, KT77, KT88

Sounds good. If I end up getting the amp, I'll almost certainly have to come back here to ask how to program the footswitch for it. Is it as simple as just making each program number a "snapshot" of the settings on the amp? Sorry, I've never used MIDI before, even though I've owned a few amps that were MIDI capable.

Now on to speaker cabs. Has anyone used a Genz-Benz GFlex with the Herbert? I've found that it is a tight, punchy cab that handles low end well. That sounds like it would be a good match for the Herbert to me.

Programming is very easy. Just step on the footswitch and select the preset number you'd like to edit. Make all switching adjustments on the amp and hit the store button twice. Done!
