Found one locally loaded with lace sensors for $200. It has 20th anniversary neck plate on it. I’m reading that 87 was the last year of Japanese squires. The numbers are not working out for me. Anybody ever seen one before?

I've seen japanese squier strats before, never one with lace sensors though - i've seen japanese fender strats and obv the deluxe models with lace pickups before

Partscaster?

Last year for them was 87 but it has that 20th anniversary badge which was in the 90’s right? Japanese neck and Chinese body? With sensors added….i don’t know….

Squier E series neck made by FujiGen in the 80s. Anniversary plate is 2003. Body could go any direction because of rear backplate. It's kind of a good sign that there are screws missing on it because the middle screws aren't offset, but an American body always is. Would need to be measured or taken apart to see if US body. Probably not an American Standard body given the 6 screw bridge, but could possibly be an okay deal if you like the pickups.

TBH cool guitar. Reminds me of bob moulds famous number one that he's used with Sugar for years and years, altho that one is obv a deluxe.

Worst case is a decent guitar for $200. May be a Squier body ultimately, but It's not a bullet body, so that's a good start on it not being poplar or balsa :ROFLMAO:Mistyped up top 02 not 03 was 20th, though.

Ages ago I had a 90’s MIJ squier, the “Wayne’s World” model strat. Damn nice guitar for the sub $200 price tag.

My buddy has had one forever but it didn't come with lace pickups

Great guitar though

Looking at an E series by me at the moment as well. TLDR of them from what I can find is the wood working is great but the electronics are garbage (hence someone dropping some Laces into yours).

Chatted with a local tech and his recommendation was make sure the frets are in good condition as a re-fret is probably close to the value of the guitar itself.

The E series had a lot of part changes over the years (eg. type of string trees used) but overall still good craftsmanship. The earlier JV or SQ are the truly sought after ones.

Between that neck plate mismatch and the pickup swap your listing sounds like a coin toss. You could take it apart to confirm the neck & body are legit MIJs and probably pay $400-600, or you can just low-ball the guy and hope to get lucky with the parts quality.
