I thought the Tom Petty band performance was stellar and was especially impressed by Mike's lead/rythem guitar playing. What you think?

Petty's band was dead on last night. thats what you get when you hire professional live musicians. Those guys have been gigging for what, 30 years?
killer.

mike campbell has always been the most underrated guitarist in my book

Mike Campbell is and always has been a real solid player. Definitely ovelooked by many. Ive always dug him.

+1

I thought the performance was great. Petty's voice sounded a bit different than usually, almost like he had a cold. Anyone else notice this?

Sounded "huskier". Don't know if it's a cold or just the combo of age and years of smoking teh ganja.

They sound great IMO. Mike Campbell is definitely underrated -- I dig his playing. His Duesenberg sig axe he used at the beginning of the set is beautiful.

Saw them a few years ago when they toured with the Black Crowes.

The Black Crowes blew. Their lead singer was drunk off his ass, forgot lyrics then said something to the effect of, "there is a large fucking wheel in the parking lot made out of stone. It was fucking beautiful!"

Then Tom Petty came on and made the concert worthwhile. Really good show, musicianship was really solid and the atmosphere at the concert was real good.

Definitely worth going to see if they swing through your area, minus the Black Crowes.

I thought Mike Campbell played and sounded great. Didn't need to see Petty's mug in HD though
