If I was to use this as a pickup switch, would I connect the hot from the pu-s to 1 and 3 on the left side, jump from 2 on the left side to 1 on the right side, and then from 2 on the right side to the volume pot..? and 3 on the right side to ground....?? I`m not good at this at all :D I hope someone can give me a pointer!

Assuming you want to use two pickups and have both on in the "middle" position (with a single volume pot), you can use the diagram I attached. (I only marked the top part of the drawing since it would be the same for the rest of course.)

Here's how it would function:
---------------------------
Position 1: bridge

Position 2: bridge and neck

Position 3: neck

The ground wires of the pickups will go to the pot's ground, not on this switch. This switch will only be used for switching the "hot" signal from the pickups to the input of the volume pot.

Also note this is an unusual switch. If you buy a 3-way DPDT, it's possible it won't function the same way as this (the middle position might be "off"). Be sure you're using the right sort of switch if you expect this to work for the middle position.

I hope that helps!

Fantastic, James!! :)
I have an on on on switch already that was used for series/split/parallell in another guitar, so I think it will work fine. Now I`m rejuvenating my old seven-string with SD Blackouts, and just one volume control, so a small 3-way is perfect.

Thanks so much for your help :)

Glad to help, Knut!

By the way, when you get tired of this metal phase, switch to 57 Classic Plus and Burstbucker 3 like we real men use. :D ;)

Yep :D

I`ve been thinking about getting some more classic sounding pu`s for my Esp, but having to do this over a couple of times to get rid of noise, and everything working the way I wanted..
