minimizing level in an apt... (besides turning vol down)

hi, guys. me and my wife are moving in to an apartment (upstairs unit) with hardwood floors. I just want to know your opinion, from guys who live in apartments or otherwise, if there would be a significant difference in sound level management if i use one of those 'foam thingy' (i forgot the name) to put my mesa recto std 412 versus just leaving it on its casters (the head is a herbert). i would like to minimize the vibration of the floor as much as possible. i know i'm gonna have to turn down, but i would get it if the foam helps while the amp stays a wee bit louder so i can record decently without recording ambient noises like birds chirping or cars passing by.

no iso cabs for now because they're a little out of my reach. i have a vetta for direct recording but i would like to be able to record an amp with a mic as well. thanks.

Using a 1x12 cab would generate much less noise. I know Bogner 1x12's are very good, my 2x12 sounds huge. I can't comment on a Diezel 1x12 as I haven't heard one. .

I don't know about the Herbert, but VH-4 sounded fine when played through an open back 1x12 loaded with a Celestion G12K-85. Also, playing through that speaker gave me further impetus to keep the volume low, as the cone on that speaker would very easily go into overexcursion with a loud and horrific popping sound if I cranked any of the channel volumes, (I set my amp up to get a lot of it's tone from the power section by cranking the Master volume) up too loud.

i think your talking about that thing called the gramma. it isolates your cab off the ground, but its supposed to improve sound!

I say get an iso cab and load it with an EV, or get an attenuator as well. I heard the bad cat leash is great!

Getting the cab off the floor will help to eliminate some of the ground shaking, will not help to make it quieter though. You will have to put something under your cab, otherwise it will feel like an earthquake for your neighbor.

That said I find it hard to believe you'll make it recordable.

I am happy in my apartment with Einstein connected into Palmer PDI-03 and mixer, and the cabinet stays in reharsal room (saving space in my living-room).
...And girlfriend is happier, less equipment at home, less "noise" when I play..

i've been talking to my wife lately about me getting a grendel. she says 'no.'

This is too bad because this would be a perfect setup for you! I have a 1 yr old at home and I have to record at night when he is sleeping. The Grendal is amazing! I put in an extra Diezel 12" Eminence and it works beautifully!

Keep bugging her and maybe she'll give in, it isn't a hugely expensive setup compared to what some other ISO cabs cost out there and what you get! I mean look what JLH charges for the Axetrak which is essentially a small box with a car stereo speaker in it...it's a joke as far as real tone goes! While the Vetta is decent, it's just not the same as recording with your Diezel.
