A of yesterday,I'm now the very proud owner of an Mod100!!So what's everyone using tubes wise,Power/pre and tube configuration, like outer and inner pairs.I rocked this thing out till about 8:30 last night with the master at noon threw a 412 loaded with private jacks, what a huge powerful tone!!!!Can't wait till this afternoon

Congrats on the new addition!

I have been running a mixed quartet of 5881 and JJ 6v6 in my mod 100 with good results. Trying to bring down the headroom a smidge closer to the Mod 50. Sometimes though, I just run it with 2 tubes for half output.
The tube change that I really liked was changing V1 in the head to a NOS JAN 5751 in place of the 12ax7a that was stock. Seemed to smooth out the input signal a little and gave me a little more brown. Lowered the gain a touch going into the moduleswhich I tend to like and adjust the gain up a touch on the module for a slightly thicker sound.

Experiment with the different tube mixes you can do. Its really cool to be able to change the character off you amp like that.

For the longest time I simply ran a mixture of Mullard EL34 and SED 6L6 and that sounded great! Lately it's been a quartet of Tung Sol 5881.

What I have really wanted to try but I just haven't gotten around to it yet is a mix of 6550/KT88 with KT77. My gut tells me that this will just KILL!

This thing "was"loaded with Sovteks,so I swapped the input for chinese and that put us into WOW status.I put a chinese and an EH in the stock SL2 and that did it for that and I still have the JJE34Ls in for power, but they ROCK,this thing is smooth and tight with lots of rich tone,it ain't going anywhere.I have some 6550c Svetlanas coming soon!I was playing my Solution loaded LP threw this beast and it just absolutely smokes!!!!!I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been the proud owner of a MOD 100 for about four years and have tried TS-5881, Sovtek 5881, JJ E34L's and keep going back to the GT-E34LS.
I use EH 12AX7's in the amps preamp section, they seem to make all the modules come alive.
I use either EH 12AX7 or Tung Sol 12AX7 depending on the module.
I have tried Chinese 12AX7A's & B's and find them too dark in this amp (seems like there is a blanket over the speakers) and have less grind and mojo than what i am currently using.
The JJ 12AX7A's sound flat and lifeless.
The Sovteks seem to do well in the EG3/4 & the EG5.
