If anyone is using the Mod 50 with the axe-fx, more specifically using the 4cm I would love to know if you are getting any hum issues. I had the GSP1101 in front of my amp and the G-major 2 in the loop and it provided some great sounds (almost all for fx use) and I'd really like to sell both of those and save some pennies for the Axe. I've been through the fractal form and the 4cm hiss thread and i couldn't find anyone using the Mod 50 with it. I saw some M4 users though.

Anyway, anyone running the Mod 50 and the Axe I'd love to hear if you have/had hum issues and how you may have resolved them.

If you're having hum issues, lift the ground on the ax/fx

If that doesn't work, try lifting the ground of the Mod50

The ground lift only works on the xlr outputs.
The 4cm introduces a lot of hiss. Cliff himself doesn't even recommend 4cm for the AFX.

That's really dissapointing. I would want to run SOME of the axe's amp models to compliment my mod 50, and also some effects before gain and some after. I was using the GSP1101 before my amp, and the G-major 2 in the loop and while the 1101 got some pretty good sounds I want a slightly simpler rig (1 piece of rack equipment to do it.) I mainly want the Axe for its effects, and some things I just really don't like in the loop.

put it in a switcher like Friedman does in his rigs.

It's the reason why I sold my AxeFX I was gonna use in my rack rig honestly. Went back to having 2 Lexicon MPXG2s instead, and couldn't be happier. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible honestly, which is why I decided against the AxeFX. I know the Lexicon MPXG2s so well, I just didn't have the level of confidence in the AxeFX.

I'm looking to keep the rack I take with me to a 3-4 space shallow rack. Getting switchers and other things involved is gonna

I may have to check out another rack unit for in front of my amp.

You could use pedals for your "before the amp FX"... I assume you mean Comps, OD's ect...then use a rack FX unit for time delay's, verbs ect. in your FX loop

I did that with my old setup. I had a fuzz factory, whammy, phase 90, and some other stuff in a rocktron switcher, and while it worked it was just too much stuff for me to lug around. Also, I'm looking to keep it all midi. I don't think I could ever go not midi now. It's just so convenient to go from clean with delay and phaser to dirt with a pitchshifter with 1 click.

If I can find an AFX for a real good price used I might be willing to try it out and if it doesn't work out flip it for minimal/no loss. I feel like the GSP in front and the G-major in the loop was one of the better options. It might have been a mistake getting rid of the GSP.

Aeroic, I've been looking at the lexicon unit, and it seems pretty awesome. I take it you really like it, but it seems like they are hard to find.

I love my Lexicon units. The first unit that could do effects in front of the amp and in the efx loop. They are getting harder to find. I had 4...and just sold one. I am going to keep my other one though...as a backup though!

Eric - as much gear as you have, I can't believe you don't have an Axe-FX, even if just for shits&giggles

I originally intended to use my M4 and Axe together as well. Had some noise issues. Can't recall what I did but eventually, between the ground lift on the M4 and getting the rack units isolated from the rails, I got it sorted out. In the end, it was far more complex than I wanted. But the Axe Fx sounded too good on it's own to get rid of. Now I just run them as 2 separate rigs and switch them with a GCX. The M4/GCX combo is causing me some hiss because of the buffer in the GCX so I may have to switch switchers :). But I think most guys get the Axe with the intention of just using it for effects with their favorite tube amp. Then they hear how great it sounds by itself and begin to re-think things.

I would definitely recommend the rocktron patchmate for a switcher. You can use the buffered or non-buffered input, and you can switch it with program changes as I know you can't do that with the GCX. It's basically just a slightly better version of the GCX in my opinionn.

I've owned two of them. Great units for effects..but I wasn't fond of it w/ the 4CM. Hence why I went back to the MPXG2s. I get killer efx with them, and really don't have a need for an AxeFX at all.

The AxePC...I'd be interested in though.

I just wanted to kind of update this thread as I bit the bullet and tried an Axe FX with the 4CM with my Mod 50. There is just a tiny bit more noise than usual. Basically the Axe works very well in the 4CM with the Mod 50.
