I just did my bias adjustment for the first time. I have just put a brand new pair of Tung-sol 5881 in there and I did a bias check and they clocked at 50. I turned it down to 35 since they range was 35 max.

Is it possible that this could have damaged the amp? Is it a completely "unsafe" range to have it running at ?

Opinions / fact ?

Am I supposed to take the bias reading when the amp/tube is cold, hot or does it make any difference ?

Turn all the knobs down to zero. Switch to high power and set bias. Cold or hot has no effect on the current.

Then I have an interesting thing happening. If I set the bias to 35 (I have 5881), then play a bit and take the bias current after a few minutes, it goes back down to 26. I am wondering what could be doing that ?

Are you re-setting all the knobs to zero after playing?
