Hey guys!

Got a MOD 50 with a 4 button Egnater footswitch. Both have 7 pin MIDI connectors. I have a 7 pin MIDI cable but the footswitch doesn't get powered through this cable. Basically MIDI in on the MOD50 to MIDI out on the footswitch.

I understand that the MOD 50 sends 9V power through 2 of the pins of the MIDI IN connector.

My cable seems to be connected pin by pin (same pin position on each end)
Is there a specific pin out on the cable MIDI connectors?
Any of you guys out there able to power the footswitch through the MIDI cable without external power supply? Ideas?
Thanks

I'm not sure which pin does the power, but my suggestion would be try another cable if possible. Might be a bad cable, might be a bad footswitch, might be something wrong with the midi in the amp. Scientific Method your way down to the problem.

I have a few Egnater modular amps, it's usually a bad cable when things aren't working. I power all my pedals with the 7-pin midi, without external power.

Good luck!

Hi
Thanks. The thing is that the 5 pin MIDI cable with external power setup works great.
I wanted to eliminate external power out of the setup.

I did test the 7 pin cable (with an ohmmeter) and it's match 1 to 1 pin-to-pin connection.... I'm stumped.. arghh..
The only thing I can think of is that the straight 1 to 1 pin-to-pin cable does not for this setup and I'm wondering if it's a different pin-out at each end (i.e pin 1 from one end maps to pin 5 or something funky like that).
Ideas?

My MOD50 would power a Randall 4 button switcher using a 5 pin cable. The M4 and RM4 have a push button on the midi board that allows you to select between sending power on pins 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 (I think 6 & 7 are always on). I'm not sure if that's on the MOD50 midi board. There is a small fuse on the midi board in the MOD50 check that; I've blown that before just by plugging in the midi cable to the pedal while the amp is on.

hi! yes that's what it was - the fuse! Best thing to do is to plug everything in before powering on the amp
Thanks so much!

Yes, this is the thing to do. When I read Marco's response, I knew he was right. I'm so trained not to plug in hot, I didn't even think of it. Glad you got your problem solved.
