Mod 50 Midi questions

I just received my Mod 50 today, and I am extremely excited to use it, but I have a question on setting up midi.

I'm going to be using midi channel 4 and my rocktron all access to change channels on the mod50, so I set dip switches 1 and 2 up as the last page of the manual says to do.

My questions are on dip switches 5 and 6. I do NOT want omni mode on...so the manual says to set it switch 5 "up".
I would like the mod 50 to be able to respond to program changes as well...(although I don't think the manual says what program changes do what), so I flip this switch down? Both of these seem very counter intuitive to me, and I just want to make sure I'm setting them so i don't have to keep taking the chassis in and out to keep flippin dip switches.

Also, for dip switch 7 (activating instant access modes) it doesn't say which way to flip the switch for that. I want that to be enabled.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

you want to set S1, S2 up (midi channel 4). S5 up (omni off), S6 down (PC mode)

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure the manual was printed correctly. It still seems weird that anything should be flipped up to be off.

I also just saw in there that the amp comes setup to accepet program changes on channel 1.

I figured I'd post this in this thread instead of make a new one.

Well tonight I had some problems when I fired up the amp for the first time. I got all the regular sounds going, and the 2 modules sound great...although I actually wish the VX module has less gain.

Anyway, the problem was when I was trying to program the midi channels. I initially had it set to channel 4, but I switched back to exactly how the amp was shipped. All dip switches were down except number 5. Yes, I turned the amp on and off each time so it would reset the midi channel.

I set my rocktron all access on preset 1 to program change 1 on midi channel 1. I know the egnater was getting midi messages because I was using the egnaters midi thru port straight to my G-major, and the G-major was still getting all of its messages correctly.

I pushed the channel button on the front and held it for 3 seconds....and....nothing. Nothing happened. Is this user error or what? I tried different program changes (1-4) and nothing worked.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a GCX pedal and had to go in the "settings" then I have up too 8 banks to program 8 units. You might have to put "MOD50" channel 04 for it to work so it will send a separate command to the MOD and to the G major. Im not sure about your midi pedal but I have my GCX set up like this:

Eggie M4 1 -01
eggie M4 2 -04
TC G sys -05
Digi 33B -02
TC 2290 -03

for each program I have to give each unit a midi number so if I want channel 88 on the TC G sys to come up on most channels for reverb then I have to put 88 in for that unit other wise it will just be whatever midi channel that switch is. So for my modules I used 1-20 so I can switch to what ever mod A/B with out pushing the module button and holding it for 3 sec. each time. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more.

I set the Mod 50 up on its own channel....twice.

Here's what I had:

channel 1: rocktron patchmate
channel 2: g-major
channel 3: whammy IV
added channel 4: mod 50

I then programmed my rocktron all access to use program change 1 on preset 1. Then I used it and pushed the channel button on the amp, held it for 3 seconds, and there was no blinking.

Then I turned the mod 50 off, flipped the midi switches to exactly how it came (channel 1). Re programmed my all acess and my patchmate so that they were on channel 4, and the eggie was on channel 1. Still did not work.

What I'm worried about is that the amp WAS delayed due to a "bad midi chip", then it was supposedly fixed and sent to me. I'm thining the fixing didn't happen. I'm really hoping it did and I'm screwing something up.

Just looked at the MOD50 manual. I see your confusion. The drawing of the DIP switch in the manual is opposite from the one in the amp. Actually the drawing does match the switch on the rear of the M4 preamp where the up/down thing does make sense. Sorry about that. Disregard the up/down terms and use the ON marking printed on the switch as your guide.

OMNI = SW5 ON
PC ENABLE = SW6 ON
CC ENABLE = SW7 ON

For channel 4 -- SW1 and SW2 are ON, SW3 and SW4 are OFF. For your setup, you will want SW5 (omni) OFF. Set SW6 or SW7 for the mode you wish to use.

I noticed a couple of comments in your posts I'd like to address. You said you put it back to the factory settings with all switches "down" except for #5. That should have been #6, not #5. You also mention the amp was delayed because of a "bad midi chip". Not sure what you mean by that. We have not had any issues with bad midi chips. We were out of stock on the uP chips for a short time and that did delay some amps getting shipped by a few days. Sorry for any confusion there. You also said in the last post that you reprogrammed the All Access and Patchmate to channel 4 and the Eggie on channel 1 and it still did not work. I assume you meant you reprogrammed the AA and PMate to channel 1, not 4? I hope I'm addressing your questions. Please feel free to email me at bruce@egnater.com or phone 248-541-9101 if this doesn't resolve everything.

Thanks
Bruce

Bruce,

Thank you for the response. When I said I put it back to "factory settings", it was how the manual described it which was 5 "up" and 6 "down". Now that I know that up is on for everything in there I'm going to try again.

The exact quote I got from Indoor Storm was, "They had a bad midi chip and had to burn new ones." I promise I'm not making that up. Besides I'd much rather have the amp delayed a few days and come to me working..which now I'm guessing it is.

In the last post what I meant was that I did the following in this order:

flipped dip switches to what i thought was midi channel 4. (according to manual)
programmed the AA to send signals on channel 4 (among others)
picked preset 1 which sent PC 1 on channel 4
held the channel button down...and nothing happened.
programmed the AA to have the amp be on midi channel 1
flipped dip switches 1 and 2 back down..obviously while the amp was off, then fired it back up
picked preset 1 which sent PC1 on channel 1
held the channel button down...nothing happened.

What seems to be the obvious answer is that since dip switch 6 was down (which i thought at the time meant it was on), the amp didn't have PC mode enabled therefore the channel led's wouldn't flash, and the amp wouldn't let itself be programmed.

I'm going to try again tonight after doing the following with the dip switches
1: up
2: up (midi channel 4)
3: down
4: down
5: down
6: up (PC mode on)
7: down

I''m hoping thats correct. Thanks again for the response.

I didn't have time to get to my band's practice space yesterday to test it out. After work today I will be testing it, and later tonight I'll post on whether it was resolved or not.
