Hi guys!
Im looking to buy my first quality tube amp after playing guitar for 4 years.Im not a pro and i dont play live but i want to get a good bedroom/basement rig with great tone at not so high volume(i tried many digital stuff from roland to line 6 and i hate those over saturated compressed buzy fizzy tone). The egnater mod seems to be a great and warm amp with excelent lead tone for many style of music.

-Of course it sound better when cranked but will it sound good at bedroom volume?
-How is the amp feel and tone wise? I like tight but warm and juicy lead tone with a good but not overwhelming midrange and no fizz or harsh highs.
-What modules should i buy to cover those style? explain me the tone, vibe of the modules you suggest please
--I play blues rock/fusion like: Led zep, ZZ top , Deep purple , Eric Johnson, Al di meola, Santana, Transatlantic
--Instrumental and 80's stuff like: Joe Satriani, Malmsteem, Iron Maiden, Doken, Racer x, guns and roses ,Vai
--Trash/death metal like: Megadeth, iced earth, exodus, slayer, kreator, opeth, arch enemy, killswitch engage, Inflames
--Modern thick mesa vibe like: Petrucci ,Dream theater heavy prog style
Im not looking to exactly duplicate those tone but having like 3 or 4 modules to fit those style while maintaining organic warmth and smooth quality and i can use a tube screamer to get the more modern metal sound.

Other amps i was looking for before i heard of egnater mod where: Diezel vh4 , Mark IIc+ , Splawn(maybe not very smooth for lead :aww: ) ,soldano slo ,elmwood modena, Fortin bones

any help or input is greatly apreciated!

Hi,
I have a Mod50 combo for a few months now and I can say that this amp is really amazing.
First I was amazed by the quality of the sound at bedroom volume. I was used to play a Carvin X100B 100 watts and it really was too loud to play in a room at a decent volume. But with the Egnater you can, no problem.
So I would say: first issue: solved
As for the feel and tone, I'd say that it would depend on the speakers you will use with the amp. That's up to you and you'll probably need to experiment a little bit to find what you are looking for. But concerning the amp it has enough switches and knobs to really shape the tone, you have the bright and bass boost switches with three positions each and density and presence knobs that basically controls the overall bass and treble of the master section.
For the modules I can only speak about the two I have that is Bassman and SL2. The Bassman is a really good module, channel A have great cleans and channel B is simply what you need for rock and hard rock music, it does the ACDC, Led Zep kind of things perfctly, but it is just my opinion. And of course it does the blues as well!
I use the SL2 with a specific setting in order to have a jazz fusion lead tone, like Allan Holdsworth. So I run the mids almost all the way up and the bass and treble almost all the way down, that's a setting I really like.
For what you need i would say that a Bassman, an EG 3/4 or EG5, and an Erect would be a good choice.

Take a look at my Youtube channel to have an idea of what it sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/user/mashcot?feature=mhum

I hope this could help

Best

I think the Mod50 would be a perfect amp for you!

It sounds like what you want to check out are the Bman for cleans and mild breakup/crunch. The Bman has a great warmth to it, but not without sparkle. It also has a great B channel that gets pretty raunchy when pushed. I go back and forth between using the Bman and the VX for my clean sound, but most of the time it's the Bman.

For your smooth, non-fizzy gain stuff, definitely check out the EG3/4. It's got plenty of gain on tap, but stays really smooth depending on where your treble knob is set. It's a killer lead/solo module that can easily handle some higher gain rhythm riffs on ch. A

For the heacier stuff, I really like the EG5. I can easily get that Rust in Peace kind of sound going on. The EG5 is a tricky module though. For me, it loves either well broken in V30's, but really seems to shine with the Egnater Elite 80's. Just keep your treble knob in check, and you'll be fine.

Hope this helps.

mboogman and mashcottin, that helped me a lot thx! The bman and eg5 will be on my list for sure! If the eg5 can get me that megadeth tone it will cover my trash metal need.
mboogman, did you compared the eg3/4 with the sl2? The problem with all those module is that i overthink them and kind of want to try them all lol.
ho and your youtube videos sounds amazing mashcottin, really smooth distortion and nice playing.I like it.

The mod 50 is a kick ass amp dude, and there are a couple of custom modules out there that will get you anything you need, great platform, just hope they keep it going  TS6550 in that bad boy just slays too!!!

Obviously the Mod50 is meant to cover almost anything, so there's a great chance that you'll come up with what you're looking for. The main problem is to try all the modules! and then make a choice.
Good luck for your purchase,
thanks for the comment on the videos.

I never did a side by side comparison, but I did have an SL2 for a while. Ended up not really being my thing. At the time, I had a Bman, SL, VX, EG5 and a COD. The SL2 was just too much of a middle ground between the SL and EG5 for me. It is definitely a great module, but I already had too much hot-rodded marshall to justify keeping it. I do like the EG3/4 better though. It's got it's own thing going on for sure. For my everyday playing, the EG3/4 gets used lots more than the SL2 did.

It seems our playing styles have a lot of similarities. I started out with the T/D, COD and EG5. After a lot of Module swapping, here is what I've decided fits me best.

M4:
Bman - Clean and crunch
SL - Dirty and Dirtier
VX - Clean breakup and rich OD
EG3/4 - Heavier dirt and lead

Mod50
Randall XTC - Modded to clean up a little better
EG5 - Heavy and Heavier!

At least to a certain degree, GAS gets replaced with MAS (Module Acquisition Syndrome)  I still want to get another COD one day.

The Mod 50 is a great all around amp. The ability to change power tubes from EL34 to 6l6 or 6550 or KTs make it super versatile combined with the swappable preamp modules--and there are ton of them
I currently have or have owned every module egnater makes as well as a lot of the randall singles. The EG3/4 vs the SL2 is like 2 different amps. The EG3/4 has very thick mids and a smooth top end. The SL2 has a little more hair, and a different midrange emphasis.
EG5 is flat out tight high gain with strong upper mids. VX rules as a clean/vintage gain sound as does the BMan although in a different, darker way.
You can pretty much find what ever tone you need with these amps.

That being said, I'm thinking of selling my Mod 50 because I have a Mod 100 and the M4-RT/250 setup so I haven't been using it. PM me if your interested--I'll make you a good deal.
