Have you guys experimented swapping out the Sovtek AX7's in your MOD50 with something else? Best results with the SL2 and TD?

I think it's about time I swap mine out. I'm getting insane feedback/squeal etc on anything with gain.

uhm, anybody? :)

I really need to get her fired back up. I found some old Fener AX7's and I imagine I can just throw them in there? Again, I'm not completely sure this is the issue but when I swapped the existing AX7's with one another the problem went away temporarily.

I emailed Bruce but I know he's quite busy these days! Are there any MOD50 experts in Southern Ontario?

Are you talking your chassis? Or modules? There are MANY posts about swapping the pre amp tubes. Use the search and you should find many.

I found the best luck with Chinese usually in V1 or Tung Sol Reissues as well. You can keep the Sovteks in V2 of the modules usually, but I usually swap them out/around as well.

In your chassis, the Sovtek LPS is a really good PI tube.

The only module I like JJ's in is the EG5. Darkens it up just a bit.

When in doubt, it's chinese for me.

Chassis only. I'll search again.

Which is V1 and V2?

Oh ok. V1 is the one closest to the input jack. PI is closest to the power tubes. PI many times is a culprit that should be checked on. I'd just go ahead and swap them each in the chassis one at a time and see if you can isolate the cause of the noise.
