Ordered my mod50 2day!!!!! I cant wait. I am retrning a slo 100 tommorow. Its just to one trick pony for me. This amp seems amazing and the versatility is perfect for my wanting a good pallette of tone. I oredered mine with vox/eg5 modules. What I'd like advice on is what should I match them with I aked Frank to put el34's in but I am not yet locked into it. I like the Slo 100 singing quality but I also LOVE Jerry Cantrells Man in The Box Grind...so some advice from my new Breathen would be greatly appreciated... as well as which cab to match it with...hmmm alot to ask I know but I am returning alot of gear tommorrow...for the record I have a Mesa Slant cab with celestian 60w vintage speakers...Again thanx to all.

Hey Jerry congrats, you gonna be thrilled with the MOD,not to mention the module addiction that seems to come with it,greatest amp I've owned and it comes with some of the best costumer service that I've ever dealt with, you truly are one of the "FAMILY"enjoy!

thanks for joining the family...you will have to have your significant other keep the checkbook or you will be buying all the modules...
Glad to hear the changes we have made are being well received with customer service..just wait for what is to come!

Congrats and welcome to the madness!

Sounds like you have your modules picked and really the only other "must have" is the SL2. As for power tubes....this is where this head is the king. You can try pretty much whatever you want. My advice; buy some 5881's, 6L6's, E34L's, KT77's or whatever else you might want to try. Try em all and swap em out. You can bias this head by yourself with a digital multimeter in a few minutes and change the flavor until you find your sound.
I tend to prefer the E34L tubes.
I use the Egnater 4X12 with V30s and love it, but I've played my MOD thru several 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets and have had luck with them all. Specially liked the Earcandy cabs as well as a (believe it or not) Avatars.

Good luck.

For Cantrel and variety....MHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use two EarCandy cabs. One BuzzBomb with Sugar Cones - WOW! LOve it. The other is an Ear Candy Boa with Green Machine and Clone.

Do you play in a band or do you play by yourself for fun? I would only recommend a MHG for someone in band IF youre the only guitar player AND the bass player likes a bright snappy tone. Otherwise, youre going to get buried and should be using EG5.

I mentioned this in another thread, but the best approximation of Cantrell's tone will come from SL2. Itll get you the tones from the first record and all the others after Dirt. On Dirt he used some Rectifiers, but he was mostly Bogners after that and the SL2 has that low mid, chewy, woody thing going on. The other guitar player in my band uses a Bogner Shiva (exact amp Cantrells been using for last 5 or so years) and the SL2 is very closely mated with it. GREAT cut from SL2 as well. Its perfected Vintage High Gain.

Jerry, welcome to the club! You'll be able to cover it all with this amp. Problem is, and it's a great problem, is the module addiction as folks have mentioned. Your current cab will rock with this amp. I'm not a huge fan of the V30's, but it seems Bruce has designed it with the V30 in mind, so you should sound killer right off the bat. Just crank that power section and feel the tone!! I'd suggest starting a small savings account.........  :D

Oh, and agree with Muudrock that the SL2 is really a "must have"....it's sick!

Spoke w/ the guys at Egnater and was told the eg5 is that "Angry Chair" AIC grind ... What's the difference between the sl2 and the eg5...any sound clips to compare. It was very hard to return the Soldano...fine amp as it is... I am going through withdrawls already. But 3000k to get not exactly the gain stage I want and no crunch clean..that moves me...waiting for the Egg to arrive is worth the stares from the ugly chicken of wants versus needs! The Shiva almost got me ,.. but was too thin/fizzy. The Soldano sings but was too round a grind if you will. Thats what has drawn me too Egnater sound pallette ...actually it was a post on Soldano's forum by Matt I think wondering if he should sell his slo 100. Anyhow its gone and theres no turning back. I freak a lil when I think I have purchased an amp without ever sitting and playin infront of it.
I must say thanx to all the people here... I have never seen a better group that actually helps people find their way Egnater or not. Its a very good vibe ...perhaps its because people here truly know what it is to search for that special tone! Again thanx to all.

So Im thinking of Changing the power tube section to 6l6's or 5881's... right now Im at el34's with vox/eg5 modules..but am thnking twin/sl2 with 6l6's in the power section..... let me know what you think...

Either is an awesome choice,I bought my MOD a couple years ago on blind faith and It's been the most incredible amp I've ever owned, every module has it's day and they rock, all of them that I've tried,I only need a couple more

WOW! I remember posting that. It was a partisan crowd at the Soldano forum that convinced me not to sell, but the SLO has been sitting in its cover in a room in my house since I got my MOD 50 so I suppose it really is time...

Trust me when I tell you that you are making the right decision. EG5 will cop the SLO overdrive tones and actually give you a more round sound because the SLO is bright unless you crank the hell out of it. You can get really full, defined, saturated tones out of the EG5 at decent volumes (and then like everything else sounds even better as you turn it up).

Id say the Egnater guys are pretty much on about EG5 being the best for "Dirt" AiC tones. That album was a mixture of I think Bogner Fish and definitely a Rectifier. When I compared EG5 to my SL2 and E-Rect thats pretty much what I heard. It has some of the thickness and chewiness of the SL2, but the quick attack of the E-Rect. Basically, very SLO-like.

Vox sounds great if you do not want alot of headroom from your clean channel. If you use humbuckers and dont have a light touch, it will start to break up REAL quick. Thats why I use TD module. The Twin side stays clean nicely and the deluxe side gives me a great mid-gain grind. Im using 5881s. Theyre crisp, clear, and punchy.

Blah Blah

Just played my mofo module...not telling what it is and man does it sound good! MOD 100 loaded with Mofo, vox++ and EG 5...4x12...smoking....dual 1x12's tomorrow...verdict!

Now that just aint right!!

You better come clean mang! :gethim: :gethim:

Well...its my take on a couple of amps blended toghter...Marshall meets Fender meets XTC blue channel, meets EG5...I am on the verge of diggin it more than, I dare say..EG5!
But not in a two guitar band...EG5 is king! This one is for the one guitar band with special ...Kings X needs!

It all started with me saying ...when I become my alter ego..The Treble Nazi, all the Modules that are Marzall based sound like a blanket has been put over the cab, when I get done with them at low to moderate volumes..I dont get that with the COD...so the COD is fender based EQ...makes sense to put Fender Eq with marshall circuit...next up is more gain..and of course great roll back without signal loss or muddyness. But how about having the knobs having to settings instead of 2 gains...meaning A is set one way and B is set another...anyway...just me tinkering and driving Bruce nuts!
