Mod50 Effects loop not working

Tonight when I went to practice I wasn't getting any sound out of my amp, and no signal to my G-major in the loop of my amp. After some quick troubleshooting, the serial loop on my amp is not passing any signal.

Has anyone had this problem before? I'm really hoping there's some kind of quick fix because I have a gig on friday night, and with my current midi rig I am very dependant on the effects in my G-major. I'll be calling Egnater tomorrow morning.

Thanks,

Phil

Ditto. Tube is the first thing to check

Second thing is really simple stuff like input output volumes, and things like whether cords are fully plugged in, or whether the loop was switched out.

You would be amazed at how many times I have had heart attacks only to find the problem was some simple thing.

;)

FYI, the loop is always in the signal path even when no effect is plugged in. The only thing that happens when you plug an effect into the loop is the normalling contacts on the return jack open. If the amp works with nothing in the loop, and the loop used to work, it must surely be something outside like cables or the effects unit itself. This means it is not going to be a tube problem. Please contact us if you don't solve it right away.

Thanks

Well, here's what I did to test things, and if you want to skip to the bottom I found the problem. I haven't tested it further to know if the amp actually has a problem but I'm 95% sure I found it and its pretty typical.

Just to note I made a little snake with 3 cables in it a while ago to go from my rack to my amp. 2 for loop, and 1 for the g-major relay to switch channels on my marshall. I no longer use the 3rd one because of midi switching...but last night I used it to test if a cable went bad.

So, I hook up everything...doesn't work. I then tried all different possible combinations of those 3 cables to see if the cables were bad...still no sound.

I then hook up 2 different cables from the send straight to return...still no sound...this is where I think theres a problem with the loop. Like I said there is sound if I leave everything unhooked from the loop.

Today at work I tested all the cables with a multimeter and in an awesome coincidence BOTH cables went bad at the same time. Worked when I went home last week, and didn't work when i came back. No idea how that happened. I'm thinking somebody in the band stepped on the ends of them and the connections broke at the connectors. It just so happens that i picked the 2 out of the 3 that didn't work to run straight from send to return. Awesome.

Anyway, sorry for crying wolf so to speak, but I was pissed last night because everyone in the band was getting pissy because I wasn't getting any damn sound.

they must have stepped pretty hard to break a solder connection..

I don't know what else it could have been though. I left the cables there over the week when I took my amp home. I didn't touch them between when I left last week and when I tried to hook them back up to my amp this week. The thing that makes me think they got stepped on/something dropped on them is because they can only get a few inches apart from each other due to being in a snake together and the fact that they both went bad at the same time.

Either way I'll be making a trip to guitar center tonight to get new ones under warranty.
