Ok I havent used my G system for a while now. I Just received my Mac Pro a few weeks ago and today decided to down load Vyzor and there was an update to Ver.4. for the G system. So everything works great with the Mac and the upload for the G went smooth.

Now I tried the 4 cable method in the series and then just Guitar-G system-Amp in and the tone is just not there. I tried adjusting Vol in out, making sure the eq, boost and noise filter was off. I dont remember it being like this before but I always have had a love hate relation ship with it.

Any suggestions??????

I’ve got the 4.02 and I’m liking the reverbs a lot. I believe the update does reset your in, out and loop levels.

Try isolating just the back end of the G through your serial loop with the guitar pluged strait into the amp. Use the B95 (All Bypass) patch to get your levels set so the G is the same volume as it would be with nothing plugged into the MOD50 loop.

Once that sounds right, remove the G from the loop and plug your guitar in the G input and out the Insert send to your amp to isolate just the front end of the G. Get your levels the same as the guitar plug directly into your amp.

Once that’s set, add the back end of the G back into the amp. You may notice the tone suck is on the front half of the G-System which is an impedance issue; the input circuit of the G-System doesn’t load your pickups the same way plugging directly into your amp does (it’s not A/D conversion mumbo jumbo).

Do you use a line level shifter? I made it work without for a while but it’s much better with the ebtech LLS.

I will try that.

No I dont have a line level shifter. Should I?

I use the reverb of the Mod50 in the parallel loop. In my Rmod100 I use a Furman RV-1 reverb in the Parallel loop and that seems to be working fine.

I almost prefer my Line6 M13 (so much easier )instead, but I will keep at it for a while.

My goal is to get the G sys working tone wise and use it to change the effects/ch on the Mod50 with a pedal board.

Thanks!

The G System with 4CM needs a buffer on the front end to avoid the tone suck. Makes a world of difference.

 where is that exactly? guitar into buffer into G system? Or should something go in between the series loop? I had to roll back the volume on the modules to keep the G system from clipping. When Playing low volumes (a little lower than talking) it sounds good. I cant crank it yet because everyone is sleeping.

WOW I have a headache from tweaking but I have several banks set up and they sound great. Got a Steve Miller 'Fly like an eagle" intro with the Pitch shift, reverse delay, reverb and Bman A. Just reverb and the Bman A for the rhythm. Also had fun trying to remember the Midi Mapping and what Channel I put the Mod50 on.

You have to experiment with buffers but I would start up front after the guitar first. You can also use any pedal that has a buffered out like some tuner pedals, or MXR micro amp. The G-system's input impedance is to high and loads down the pickups. Unless you're using actives, the tone suck is obvious. Have you checked on the TC forum? I know there was a guy (user name Laird?) that had a white paper out about setting the G system up and avoiding the tone suck. I Loved the G sys, and with a buffer up front, and the levels properly set, it was good. In the end, TC just needs to remedy the situation--which i think they did with the red one they released recently.

I'll echo the other guys' statements. A line level shifter is the only way to raise the channel masters past 10 or 11 keep the volume to and from the G consistent. From the whitepaper that Muudrock is referring to:

1) Aquire a 2-channel line-level shifter.
2) Put your amp on standby.
3) Connect the amp’s send to the channel 1 +4db jack on the line-level shifter using a short, high-quality instrument cable or patch cable.
4) Connect the line-level shifter’s channel 1 -10db jack to the G-System insert return using a balanced cable.
5) Connect the G-System Output to the channel 2 -10db jack on the line-level shifter using a balanced cable.
6) Connect the line-level shifter’s channel 2 +4db jack to the FX loop return on the amp using a short, high-quality instrument cable or patch cable.

I'll add the following:

1) If you are not using the Tube Driver pedal in you signature somewhere else, that will load the input quite nicely.
2) If you are not going to use the G's internal comp and filter section, you can bypass the input AD completely by plugging a buffered signal into loop 1 (you do lose one loop this way)
3) The vizor editor makes programming the G SO much easier IMO.

Ok so I need to get a Line level shifter. Who makes a good Buffer with out buying a Tuner pedal or other pedal I dont need?
My Tube Driver pedal is in my rack with my Gilmour setup. Thanks!

I use a Radial Dragster. It works just fine for me. I know alot of guys use an Axxess buffer (if you can find one), or something like an ISP Decimator. I am not a high gain player, so the G's noise gate is even overkill for my needs. I am going to probably try these in my gigging guitars http://www.creationaudiolabs.com/redeemer/.

Hope that helps.

These all are buffers. Some also can double as a boost. I've had good results with all of them.

MXR Micro Amp
Buff Puff
VHT Valvulator
CAE MC401 booster/line driver

I have a Fulltone FB Fat Boost 2. Does that qualify as a Buffer? It has a JFET circuit (seems to be recommended circuit over transistor), Boost, Treble and Bass control. If so then all I need is a 2 Ch LLS and some new RTS cables.

I also have a Boss GE7 eq pedal and heard Boss pedals usually have a buffer in them?

The GE7 has a buffer in it...you can probably hear the signal change when you put it in line (whether on or not)..raises the noise floor a little too on some of 'em. :-/

So you guys liking the new G-system update?

Just downloading the update now.

Yes I like it. The reverbs are great and sound better.

I am going to order a ebtech LLS and try and get guitar center to order me a TC y midi cable for the Nova Drive and G system. I guess why i'm at it I will get some good quality TRS cables and midi cables and make a snake for the pedal board.

As far as a buffer I think my fulltone works. I will also try the boss ge7 and decide if I want to just get a buffer.
