Just a quick question for the Mod50 Vets:

I'm looking to swap out some tubes in my Mod50 head with Tung-Sols or JJ's and cannot find the schematic for the 3-12AX7 tubes.

Are 2 for the effects loop and 1 for the input or inverter?
Are the 2 tubes inside the module V1 and V2?

Just curious which ones will make the most tone changes...

Thanks!

The 3 tubes on the head are when looking at the amp from the back, furthest to the left is the phase inverter, middle tube is the effects loop the one furthest to the right is the input tube. V1 in the module is the tube on the left when looking at it in the amp. This tube is the "true" V1 but it only sees gain it has no effect on tone shaping. Thats why V1 in the module is talked about as the V1.

so does the input tube on the head tone shape?

the V1 on the module has not effect on tone shaping? so if you swap tubes, the only change in sound will be in terms of gain?

sorry, a little confused.

anyone!

When it comes to tubes and amps, everything effects everything, in my opinion.

Even though the Chassis V1 tube doesn't affect tone shaping, per se, the signal DOES pass thru it first, so I think it's safe to say that the signal will kind of pick up the attributes of that tube afterwards.

So I make sure that my Chassis V1 is a really good, clean, quiet tube. (in my case, a really nice US made NOS 12AX7A). And to my ears, it just makes every module sound even better.

I probably wouldn't stick a JJ or a darker, more colored tube in the chassis V1.

That's just my opinion.
