MOD50 Slave out

Is the slave out a line level signal tapped after the poweramp section? Might be experimenting with a little w/d soon..

If it is, I figured that'd save me from buying something like the suhr line out. To start I'm going to try the method of taking the signal post poweramp and then using just a clean solid state poweramp to drive the wet cabs. Once the egnater poweramp comes out I'll probably then compare that to taking the preamp output, running effects, then into a tube poweramp.

yep. also good for running into an interface and using cab emulators on a computer or axefx or whatever, right?

great point. You'd still need a load on the head though when doing that. either a speaker or something like a hot plate set to load.

its not after the poweramp, its before the poweramp i'd imagine..
nope, otherwise why would it be there? the mod 50 has a serial effects loop which does just that...

It would have to be before the power amp In order to slave to another amp otherwise you would be trying to put up too 50 watts into the front of an amp or or effect unit. slave out should be pre amp out. Im new to the slave out thing but use it this way into my TC2290 and stereo out to my RT2/50 and it works fine. If I ran 10 watts into my RT2/50 (being slave out was post amp) i am sure there would be some damage to the RT.

well that's why I was asking, because I can't remember why but I had the impression that some companies slave out has the poweramp coloration but padded down to line level, and some is just an effects send with no return basically. Again, I don't know where I got that idea, but that's what I want to clarify. Jeff? Bruce?

To my knowledge, the slave is a line level tap from the power section and is tonally affected by the power amp section tubes. Obviously its not off the output transformer or it would blow shit up.

It is an attenuated signal that is tapped directly off the speaker output. Attenuated means the output level (voltage) is reduced to line level from the higher speaker level. You must have a load (speaker, Hotplate, or ?) connected to the amp as always. The line out is not specifically for direct recording. It can be used as an effects send for a pseudo stereo or W/D/W rig. For direct recording from the line out, you will want to use a cabinet simulating direct box. This output could be used for direct recording if your software has the cabinet simulation in it which would eliminate the need for a microphone. The advantage of having the output "tapped" off the speaker is so that you get all the tone of the amp including the power tubes, presence and density and the 10 watt feature.

huh.. color me pickled..

Wow! I didn't know that the MOD50 had a Slave out.....was this always offered, or is it a recent feature?

I have this feature on my TOL100 amp, and I think it's great!

Hey Buddy!

I was in Montreal over the weekend, and I intended to go to the Cornwall gearfest.

I stopped at Ted Stevenson's to check out his new PWE amp, and by the time I got to Cornwall, the fest was over!!

I thought it would have laste well into the evening.......oh well, at least I got to meet Mark and his wife.....they have a cool setup for their music school!

Cheers!

Two things.......I just tried the slave out into a chorus, then into the line in to the Power block, but when I turned the power block on, then clicked the chorus on, I got a loud hum going on. Quickly turned the PB off. Adjusted the line in trim tab to zero, tried it again, same thing. I'm such a dork on this stuff. Any suggestions??

Second, you guys always scared me about the effects loop with pedals so I never tried it. Just gave the parallel loop a shot with my Dano chorus and it sounded really good! Guess it sort of surprised me.......in a good way!!

ground loop probably.. i'm assuming the chorus can handle line level signals?

Have no idea!!  Guess that's why I always just run a few pedals, then amp. Just figured I'd give it a shot at the W/D deal. Too freaky to try it again.

Oh well, gave it a shot!    Back to axe, pedal or two, amp!

try a stereo cord, TSR (Tip Ring Sleeve)cable. some times they will fix a ground loop problem. I have used 2 of them for "send, return" or pre amp in the "Insert" on my TC G system.
