Figured I’d post the two badass Marshall’s. One which I’m proud to be wrapping up.

One of the best sounding Cameron Aldrich 100Ws on the face of the earth. Only two versions of this one exist. This one’s a copy of the original made for a famous artist, built by @dawnofdreamx97 in a 1996 Reissue with the high quality Dagnall transformers. It has a depth control. This one’s all business, there’s no cleaning up this high gain with your volume knob. It gets down to business.

The second on the bottom is my own creation. I’m calling it my Enmity mod.

1974 Marshall SLP 100W with 6550s.

100W, hi/lo footswitch input control on the fly which is 4 gain stages or 3 gain stages both retaining a cathode follower.

True bypass metroloop with a dedicated relay that’s footswitchable.

Footswitchable truely seperate master volume for either a silent mode on 0 or can be used for a solo boost. It’s wired such that it does not have any interaction with the main master when it’s not selected unlike most other secondary masters. No weird shit with this dual master.

Depth Control on the back.

External -10dB or 20dB switch for the metroloop level.

DC heaters. Dual bias control. And it was modded to look completely stock from the front. I didn’t stop tuning this circuit until it could hang with the Cameron aldrich but still have a working clean with your volume knob on the low input. It brings the heat and is functional. I’m only reducing the noise floor as much as I can now on it.

Soon I will be recording both of these amps with a Royer 121 and an SM57 with a solid setup and mic pre.

HOWEVER. I won’t be saying which amp is which ?‍♂️? I will setup a poll and you can vote.

Stay tuned

Would love to hear that camron Aldrich. I’ve been listing after suhr’s SE mod which I believe is the original “Aldrich” mod, and mark has his take on John’s amp, or something similar to it. Anyways, how does it compare to a boosted 2203?

It annihilates boosted 2203s ?

More gain, more body, more low end, and still easy to play.

However you could also argue it doesn’t sound Marshall anymore.

That's what I hear about Suhr's mod. Killer amp but I've heard owners say it almost moves to mesa territory.

I hate mesas so if it sounded like a Mesa and not a gained up Marshall I wouldn’t own it. Also Nick built this one as a copy and his stuff is great.

There’s no clipping diodes in these amps. Just raw aggression. I can’t wait to record the two of them for y’all

I’ve had a couple SE modded Marshall’s but by Martin Golub, after Suhr left…company at the time was LA Sound Design; I don’t think it was called that when Suhr worked for Bradshaw. They were similar in most ways to the Cam Aldrich’s I’ve owned (5), but the glaring difference was tightness..Aldrich’s are tight while the SE modded Marshall’s were a bit loose in the lows by comparison.

I think some maybe describe some of the Cameron mods as Mesa-like just because of all the added gain, compression, easy to play feel, thickness and more laid back mids, but I never thought them as sounding like boogies myself

Right on. Had a Crunch modded plexi done by martin. Just sold it because my 77' 2203 does the same thing. I wonder if the cam had different filtering?

Yeah I know it's suhr's mod, and I think martin kept doing it after he left CAE. I've been talking with John and I guess he's made some revisions to the circuit since the 90's.

OP I'm anxiously awaiting clips!!

Be more excited to see a schematic of the Cameron :ROFLMAO:

In the Cam vein here is my modded Marshall porn.
Hopkins Pandora "Thing #2"
Depth mod (by passable)
3 way toggle - Jose, JCM800, CCV
Metro Loop

I can't stay out of the CCV mod. So articulate and nasty!

Billy does it the best. "100% spot on!"

On a real note. While I think Aldrich mod is the best Cameron offered, I'm starting to kinda warm up for older lower gain Marshalls that are fighting for their lives. ?

IME having tried so many Cameron mods now, I can’t say any particular mod he does is better than others. Each one he does is a little different and so dependent on the amp itself too. I also tried recently a whole bunch of one off Cameron modded Marshall’s that are unique to those ones. They all have the Cameron sound & feel, but with their own differences. The Aldrich IME is in general the hairiest/most growly sounding mod of his, but usually not as tight as his Jose mods, varies though. I agree with you that I still generally would just prefer a good stock ‘70’s or ‘60’s Marshall boosted, especially with my Klon
