So my single channel only M4 is due to arrive tomorrow. I am looking for a nice high gain module for it. Like an SL2, EG5 etc. But since I am limited to single channel modules I am thinking about some of the Randall stuff in particular the modified XTC, SL+, or 1086. Do any of those come close to the Egnater modules??

Also is anyone here interested in trading a high gain module for a single channel bassman?? If not do you know what that module should sell for??

Absolutely nothing wrong with Randall modules.Check out the Modded 1086 and SL+,even stock they sound good!

I have a Randall 1086 stock in my Randall RM20.

I hate disturbed and Dan Donegan, but damn, that module is a GREAT module.

The fact that it has a low gain/high gain switch AND has a midrange toggle to go between marshall upper mids, and mesa lower mids. Super versatile. Tons of gain on tap. Goes from plexi to marshall high gain to mesa chug.

I'm very impressed with that module. And like all of them, different preamp tubes will bring out different characteristics.

Personally, I found the 1086 a little too crazy high gain.

My overall fav Randall mod, so far, is probably the stock Mr. Scary. It's like an SL2, but more aggressive to me. Very quick, tight response, yet still thick and soaring.

It's a badass mod.

I'll tell you how my Salvation Custom 3 turns out.

Ultra XL is also a great stock module, it is high gain, tight, a little on the smooth side, but still capable of some great rythm and likewise lead.

Mr Scary clips sound killer as well as the brahma

I like the crazy high gain sometimes

I think that with a twin, bassman, and JTM45 clean, blues, and crunch are covered pretty good. Now I will just need something for the brootalz

I have played lots of Randall mods, and the 1086 stock was very dissappointing. Did the Marshalll sound ok, but not as good as other mods, and the scoop sounded like it scooped all the quality- unusable blankety bee buzz! And surprisingly, the gain didn't go far enough! I can't believe I'm reading Eggie users give the stock 1086 props?!

That being said, I bought another 1086 sent straight to Pete due to its rumored excellence....they say the switcxh becomes Framus Cobra/engl. If it's in the ballpark, that'll be awesome!

the only mods I played that have more gain than needed is the EG5 and a Pete modded xtc..I love having more than necessary!

If you do fill out your Eggy rack with a Randall, it should be pro modded, otherwise I'd stick with an Egnater single

Vouching for Pete. I had him do an XTC with clarity mod and a nice black & creme faceplate and knob scheme to match my amp. Looked and sounded very good.
