My buddy wants to run his Pod into a tube power amp. He tried running it through a marshall JCM900 SLX power section and liked the results. Are there any mono power amps that have 6L6's or EL34's available?

I was going to have him try running it through my '67 Fender bassman head as well, but it doesn't have an effects loop, so I am not sure if that would be a problem with the fender preamp coloring the sound too much....

Why not get a stereo power amp since the Ipod is stereo?

that said, other mono power amps:

Peavey Classic 120 (as listed above)
Peavey Classic 60
Langner Brutus
Aguilar DB 728
Mesa M-180
Mesa M-190

Oh, shit. I misread that

BUT.....................................

Since the POD is stereo, why not run a stereo power amp. It only takes a 2x12, and voila, stereo ampage.

i didnt know the POD was a stereo output. cool

and yes 2 is definately better than one. i always enjoy the fullness of my tone through 2 cabs at band practices rather than using one all the time for noodling/ learning songs/ home practice

I`d just get a decent amp head with effects loop for mono, I`ve run my old Pod though various Marshalls with nice results. It takes some tweaking, but I managed to make it sound nice in most of the cases. If he`d like stereo, there`s a plethora of stereo power amps available :)

I thought people use modeling units only when they can't get loud. Why not a real tube amp?

My reasons have been "cover band"
I can`t afford several amps, so for me it was a no-brainer. I also manage to sound really good with a Pod  When the tube power amp is cooking, it cuts, screams, chugs and does all the other things I need it to do. The cutting factor added by the Marshall or Mesa tube power I`ve used, makes it an easy choice.

(I`m also into playing music mostly for the music`s sake. If it sounds good enough to get my musical expression out, it is good enough. I`d rather spend the little time I have for playing to become a better player :)

He is wanting to run a 112 with this rig. He does have an Avatar 212, so maybe I can convince him to run that.

good to see that there are a good number of mono tube power amps, I mainly see the stereo ones for sale....

one problem:

Mesa M180, M190, and Langer Brutus are all like 180-200 watts.

the Aguilar is like 400 watts all tube mono.

Yea, that is a problem. I think he was going to pickup Jeff hilligan's Classic 60 power amp....
