So what do you boys suggest on doing to maybe pushing the Renegade into a little higher gain without loosing its punch and character? Tubes?? Pedals??? Lets hear it????

I use the Blackstar HT Dist on my clean channel for a good heavy modernish tone, but as a boost on the gain channel doesn't do all that well. How is the Dual compared to the Dist? Is the second button on the Dual like the Dist and the first button more like a OD boost? The Dist is a killer pedal for distortion, not so much for a gain boost though.mmorse":3gj24q3o said:I use the Blackstar HT Dual with my Renegade. It has 2 gain channels, EQ, ISF control (similar idea as the Renegade's tube mix), each channel has individual gain and volume controls, and is tube driven. It can also be used as a clean boost.
I set up the Renegade's gain for a nice rhythm crunch and use the pedal for a bit additional gain and volume for leads.
Yep!First channel (button) is a OD boost. From 100% clean to heavy crunch. PS:the 2° channel is very similar,if not identical,to the Dist. EDIT :I just listened to the YouTube demo,it's ok but don't forget it's ENTIRELY recorded with the EMULATED OUTPUT !It's ok but it's not the same as the normal output !Is the second button on the Dual like the Dist and the first button more like a OD boost?
Do you have it setup to change the tone of the Renegade for leads? If so, what are you doing?mmorse":9qxmewx7 said:The HT Dist is for metal tones. The HT Dual is more like a typical OD boost. It IS the pre amp of the Blackstar HT5 head and combo. Channel 1 and Channel 2 are voice differently but they share the same tone stack. I've never really tried but one should be able to come close to the Renegades OD tone while adding more gain.
The only thing I didn't like about the pedal is that it ships with the same Sovtek ax7 as the Renegade has. I don't like that tube so I replaced it with an old Mullard.
I don't know, the Dist works for metal, IMO. The youtube clip I posted above doesn't sound like my Dist at all. However, he recorded all that direct. I'll check out some other demos, but thus far it sounds different from the Dist.viking22":9dk3vgbh said:I don't think the Dist is for Metal tones;there is the DistX for Metal tones.I think the Dist is really like the 2° ch of the HT Dual...
It's the EMULATED OUTPUT.It's a nice feature but it's completely different from the normal output. You can def. use the Dist & the Dual for some Metal but they made the DISTX esp. for Metal use...Btw, the clip doesn't sound like my Dual either, esp. for the high gain tones It's not surprising.Rogue":1wdva6lm said:I don't know, the Dist works for metal, IMO. I really dig the Dist for what it does. If the Dual is similarly cool a pedal, it's worth looking into.
I found one of the Dual that sounds similar to my Dist, so you could be right. So if the Dual is the Dist and a OD, dangit! I bought the wrong pedal.viking22":3bgyk61u said:It's the EMULATED OUTPUT.It's a nice feature but it's completely different from the normal output. You can def. use the Dist & the Dual for some Metal but they made the DISTX esp. for Metal use...Btw, the clip doesn't sound like my Dual either, esp. for the high gain tones It's not surprising.

I can still take the Dist back to GC and get the Dual. But I really dig the Dist for heavy stuff and would like to keep that aspect, but have a nice OD for a boost on the Renegade gain channel.mmorse":t0bfusq3 said:Rogue":t0bfusq3 said:Do you have it setup to change the tone of the Renegade for leads? I set the OD channel on the Renegade for my rhythm crunch and set up the HT for solos. I use channel one for a brighter, less gainy lead and channel 2 for a heavier more gainy lead. Works for me.
The only issue is, I have to re-EQ everything when switching from my LP to my Strat but that's to be expected I guess.
GC sells them so you have 30 days to try one to see if it will work for you. While I haven't tried to duplicate the OD tone of my Renegade with the HT, I have been able to virtually equal the tone of my Marshall 2204 when cranked at a MUCH lower volume. That's why I got it in the first place.
