I really love the flexibility of my TM2x12, but I most likely will be playing in a cover band that plays out 4-10 times a month pending on the time of year, and I am going to want something that is a little smaller and portable yet sounds good. Any reccomendations? My first thought is the smaller Mesa 2x12, but I'm open to suggestions. If it can come unloaded that might be better. Not a big deal though.

A good oversize 112 with a big sounding speaker, like a K100, will sound great, especially if you're miking it.

Agreed. My custom 1x12 I got from Mojotone is awesome w/ both a K100 and a M75 100W speaker. Really loud, punchy, huge tone. I'd recommend going to an oversized 1x12 route also. :)

Love the Egnater 1X12 oversize I bought from Buckeyedog. Sweet cab. And it's a one hander. My new small rig is complete with this & the Rebel 30. Still looking for the perfect speaker for it. Considering an Austin Speaker Works KTS - 60.

Try a Scumback M75 100W-er :)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I think the Egnater 1x12 is what I'm leaning toward so far just because of price and because they seem to be well liked here. The port city looks pretty awesome but that is out of my price range.

well...just to clarify...3 Mile Stone is talking about a USA made egnater OVERSIZED 1x12...not the Rebel 1x12. The oversized 1x12s are similar in cost to a port city...as both port cities and egnater USA made stuff...are all made by mojotone.

I tried a lot of different cabinets for my small rig. The Egnater 112x is an excellent sounding cabinet. Best 1x12 I've heard so far, even better than the very popular Bogner cube which I had for a while and couldn't believe they get $500+ for them. Two of the 112X's running together makes all the difference. I used two for a while, then grew tired of hauling around two cabinets..

So I bought a 212X. Everyone loves it, I didn't like it that much. It sounds great, but the low end was way too big and boomy for me. Other guys loved that because they're usually trying to get the beef of a 4x12 in a 2x12 size, which it does a great job at. Another problem for me was it's too big. It's really only about 8 inches shorter than a typical 4x12. I already own four 4x12 cabs, so I might as well just take one of those..

Then I tried a Vox 2x12. Decent sound, great price, smaller than an oversized 2x12. Problem was it was very heavy and didn't resonate at all. ALL of the tone came from the speakers which weren't that great to start with..

Finally, after reading all the great reviews of the THD 2x12, I tried one and fell in love with it. Perfect, even tone, all the way across the guitar spectrum. Excellent size, nice weight, and the best part, keeps the sound of 2x12 that a typical 1x12 lacks. The 2nd best part is Indoor Storm can have one custom made for you.. Tolex, grill, piping, handle, feet, everything is your choice. The 3rd best part, they have them made by Mojotone, so the quality is one of the best you can get.

Wow Klark.....Whats the price on the THD 2x12??????? :)
I thought it was expensive. The thing I love about the TM212 is the bang for the buck! Killer price and the right speakers kills some boom.

I love the TM212X and with the right speakers not boomy at all. G1265s are killer in it...like old Greenbacks.
I sold all my 412s so this is the next best thing. Keeping the back on keeps it tighter too.

I you say so, you would know. Is that a 55 Hz or a 70Hz speaker. Do the Scumbacks take a long time to break in. I played one once and it was real stiff. I would love to try one though. Bet it don't suck.

Yep, true that is. The original oversize Egnater cab not the Rebel 1X12. Fantastic cab.

The M75 65w'ers don't take that long to break in...probably about 15-20 hours. They don't have as much "give" as a normal Greenback...but I dig that..:) Definitely a lot more give than a K100...or a V30 though.

In your OS 1x12, it'll offer a lot more give w/ the port. Really depends on the cab and the feel on the speakers. W/ my 1x12 from mojo...which is OS w/o a port...it sounds awesome...and gives and takes very well.

$425 for the empty cab.

It's not such a good for the bang for the buck when you have buy the cab, remove the speakers from the cab, buy new speakers, load new speakers. And then, on top of all that, you get to lose your ass on the Elite 80's because you practically have to give them away. To each his own, but for me it made more sense to spend $425 on a cabinet that I can order in whatever tolex, piping, and grill that I want, has a better handle, is smaller and lighter in weight, is ready for the speakers I want to put in it, and most importantly, sounds better.

Wonderful, but it's still physically too big.

I have a 50 lb Randall NTX 212 that I love!

I've got one of those too...I am pretty sure sure it's lighter than 50 lbs...more like 40 lbs or under. I swear the RT 2/50 power amp weighs more than that cab. The Neo speakers in the NXT help keep the weight down. It is by far the easiest 2x12 cab to haul around. Only problem is that Neo speakers are not everyone's cup of tea. I wouldn't want it to be my only cab, but it's nice to have around when I don't want to haul a lot of stuff to a gig.

Right you are! With the Neos it is light! I hated the Neos and sold them! LOL. With the G12K-100s it is heavier....like 50 lbs. GREAT CAB.

I agree with Eric the 100s do not have a lot of give and that is one thing I am on the fence about. I still like em world's better than the Neos! However, going back to what Klark said....I DO like the Elite 80s in the TM212!
I like that it sounds like a 412 and I love the size/huge tone....still easier than moving a 100 lb 412.

I still may eventually replace the speakers with something else that has more give (as Eric said). I am hoping Scumbacks are it.....but I do want this cab to have speakers with more give. Maybe WGS ET-65s will be a good choice. I talked to some tone hounds like us who did a comparisong of Heritage G12-65s in a Landry 412 compared to another Landry with ET-65s and all 4 guys preferred the WGS.

Check out the ported 1X12 from Suhr or Bogner....they sound really nice.

Here is the Suhr Badger cab....you can order it unloaded then put speaker of choice in it!
