Which one would have a more cutting, ripping tone of these two amps? Which is the tightest sounding?

I have both and either will do the trick...dial it right and you will smile with either one. The Twin Jet has some extra knobs to tweak but both are heavy, fun, articulate, cutting, ripping as you would say. No disappointments with either IMO.

Does the Twin Jets channel 1 have enough gain to do a heavy rhythm let's say and have channel 2 for leads?

That's what I though. Oh and cool vid you did for Bogner.......very professional.

Of course, however if it were me I would probably reverse that thought and use channel 2 for rhythm's and 1 for leads but with a boost on it. There are a number of boosts that work well in this case that I have used....Klon, Timmy, Secret Freq, Vemuram, Maxon OD 820 all do nicely for boosted options.

OK I got a Twin Jet this morning. While I love the tone and the range of tones. It is a little short on the gain especially in the first channel. Is there something I can do to the amp to get a little more gain, like change the tubes? I see 3 JJ 12AX7's and the other 3 look like Sovteks. I want the extra gain with using a pedal.......I know, I am a little bit of a purist, but I guess Boogies have spoiled me that way because I don't even own a boost pedal.

Use Chinese 9th B's. It's what it was designed around. There shouldn't be a shortage of gain on either channel. Also, replace the Sovtek KT88s if you can with something better (I love JJ KT88s in mine).

Should I replace all 6 12AX7's in there now with the Chinese B's? What does the KT88 replacement do for the sound....warm it up, more bass....?

Leib10, I have a Twin jet on it's way, what's the difference between the JJ KT88 and the Sovtek KT88? lotta friends suggested to me the Sovtek 6550, they sound not as dry and glassy and stiff as the KT88 is true?

You gotta be careful with 6550s in a Twin Jet. The plate voltage is too high for any 6550 except for Winged Cs. I used Winged C 6550s in my Twin Jet for a while, and they sounded pretty sweet- more pronounced midrange and less massive bottom end. I would stay away from Sovtek 6550s; they might not be well-built enough to handle the plate voltage.

As for the difference between KT88s, I noticed an improvement in clarity when I changed the Sovteks to JJs. It sounds a lot more clear and articulate, and the bottom end is tighter and more defined. It just sounded less muddy while still sounding insane (I really think that the Twin Jet is one of the most out-of-control amps I've ever heard or played). I think the only reason Bogner uses these tubes as stock is because they are cheaper than other options.

I run all Chinese 9th B preamp tubes except for a JJ 803s in V4.

In newer Uber's, I find the Ruby re-branded Chinese 9th's (12AX7AC5 HG) are super sweet in V2-6, with a Tung-Sol in V1 for insane gain and tightness. Just make sure to get one balanced one for V6 (Phase Inverter). In the older Uber's, I like the Ruby Chinese 9ths in all positions. I use the KT77's in my Rev Blue, and Winged =C= EL34's in my rev 2..... I do some tube testing to put the right gain level 12AX7's in the right positions of optimum gain. You can also do this with tube rolling...patience, and a good ear. Cheers!
