Had a chance to crank the SL Ch A last night.

Ch A settings:
Gain: Max
B: Noon
M: 2:30
T: 3:15
Boost/Bright: off
Master: 3:00
M4 master: Noon

Pure, unadulterated plexi tone! I'm digging it a little more than Ch. B right now.

Carry on...

Frank recommended the SL when I first bought my Mod 5o
but noooooooooooooo............I had to go thru several other modules until
I submitted to the plain jane, not hot rodded, maybe boring, just regular, everyday marshally
SL module

WAS I EVER WRONG

sorry Frank, I have repented and changed my ways. I bought the SL and I truly am not looking back :D

Great module! We did some comparisons, an SL vs a Randall completely modded Plexi. I actually preferred the Plexi because I could still get the SL tones lower in the gain sweep. Turn the Plexi up to max and I was getting Zakk Wylde tones. It's like owning the best Marshall I have ever played. The Plexi or SL are both great.

The SL is a great module. The GNR is the best Marshall module IMHO though ;) ahahahaahha.

I think it does "Zakk" better than the Plexi or SL. Just a tighter / more focused gain like Zakk's tone.

GNR module sounds like the Injected album to me, all the way. Just pure GRIND.

SL has the kerrrrang.
GNR has the grrrrrrind.

Sounds like a good combination!

Are there any similarities between the SL A clean and Bman A clean?

The only way you can get the SL clean, is if you DIME the master, and just start bringing the gain knob up slowly. It's better for a dirty clean, not a clean-clean.

That's b/c you're limited to the ch volumes before your fx loop, instead of having a separate master b4 the fx like when one uses an M4 or E2.

On an M4, the VX and SL can be pretty much clean-clean with no problem.

THat's one reason these are two of my favorite modules.

I have no problem getting a nice clean out of the SL Ch A. I'm running a 5751 in V1 which helps keep the module a little cleaner. I was using the SL CH A as my clean channel until I got the VX.
Are you using high output pickups?

I may just need to do some more tweaking...

I got the BMAN now, so that's what I'm using for clean most days.

+1 on the 5751. I use that for the BMAN, DLX, and when I had the SL, the SL.

Which one has more kerrrrang, the SL or the VX?

SL = Kerrang

VX = Chellam

LOL! Urban dictionary defines chellam as "sweetheart." Must be your favorite module. I can understand that! Be interesting to see what the board says on this - I'll post the question.

So my wife got me a little Danelectro CoolCat Transparent Overdrive pedal for my birthday. I have wanted an overdrive pedal for the SL to see what would happen; note that I have only used my amps for all gain in the past 10 years.

So I plug the little booger in, dial it in, hit SL Ch A and WOW -- totally great heavy Marshall! Really, really great fun. Sounds great with all the modules, but now I "get it"! Just a great Steve Stevens-y/80's big rock tone. LOVE it!

Man, why didn't I do this sooner? :dunno: :D/

You prob lucked out. I've tried OD pedals so many times and been so disappointed.

The MXR Distortion III is the only "OD/Boost" I've found that doesn't compress the hell out of everything, cut the bass, and add noise.

Try a Tone Freak Naked OD!...VERY transparent and does not squash the crap out of the sound. Just pushes an already overdriven amp into sweet sustain/harmonics with slightly adding a lil hair!
