Hey guys. I picked up a Morris GCM 008 not too long ago, and I am having a blast with this thing! 50 watts, EL34s and handwired. This is the most organic/touch responsive amp I have ever owned. Glen Morris makes some killer stuff!

I'm fairly new to recording. In the past, I've always relied on friends to do that for me while I just played. Still learning my way around garageband, mic placement, proper levels etc., but I am really starting to have some fun with this stuff! Anyway, thought I would share a clip of the Morris amp, along with the Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelt pickup I had installed in my CS Charvel a couple of months ago.

That is a great tone, it blooms really well and sounds really bright, full and organic. Good stuff man!

Nice clip! I just got a set of 2nd Degree Black Belts from Buckeyedog yesterday and he installed them into my Les Paul Standard. Really nice articulation and tone! My ears had to adjust a bit from the JB in my other guitar but I'm just realizing I need to use a little more gain and adjust for the tone I'm used to. These are much more organic than my other pickups and just have to get used to them. The mids are very pronounced and have a different kind of "crunch" in the sound but the cool thing is that you can dial things in/out of the overall tone unlike some of the other pickups I've tried.

I think the 2nd Degree Black Belts make you work a bit more and you can't be a slacker with the metal riffs. :) They are perfect for nailing AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc. but as others have mentioned, can definitely do hard rock/metal within reason. If someone said "I'm looking for a metal/hard rock pickup", I would steer them elsewhere because I think there are other no-brainer solutions out there. However, if someone said "I have a Friedman amp and a great boost pedal and want to play hard rock where I can hear each note and have a middy crunch", I'd definitely recommend these. :)

Sounds great! I've been gassing for a Morris Mo-Jo recently.

Thanks guys!

When I first started recording my clips, I spent a bit of time experimenting with mic placement. I've got a Bogner 4x12 with 2 V30s and 2 G12H30s in an x pattern. I didn't love what I was getting when close mic'ing either speaker. It's the blend of the two in the room that I like best. I actually have the mic set back about 4 or 5 feet from the cabinet so that I can get a blend of all the speakers. I think it works okay because the room is pretty dead in terms of sound reflections.

Sounds fantastic!

Some may remember me as "troublehead"........I was a member here from the day this site was created. I had my account deleted after I was spending too much time on here. But this is the first thread that has made me feel like I need to post something again.

I have had a Morris GCM-008 for some time now (I also own a Morris Perplex'd). The 008 really is my dream amp........imagine a pristine clean channel that can do Plexi as well (2 modes) and a lead channel that will do all the great JCM800 tones (3 modes with increasing gain levels) with an effects loop and the best master volume you've ever heard. I have owned countless amps that get discussed on here every day, but the 008 now has me flipping guitars instead of amps. You guys would be surprised if you ever got the chance to play one. I'm not one to slag other builders, but the Morris amps are really at another level IMO. Too bad Glen isn't well known in these forum circles. But I kind of like having my own little secret gem.

Rock on

Love the clips! Pushed me over the edge to pick up the one that has been on Reverb for a while   Should have it later next week some time.

Cool man. Glad you are digging your 008 too. There are so many great amps out there these days; it's gotta be tough on the lesser known builders to get any type of foothold in an already saturated market. Very glad I stumbled upon this amp though! Could not be happier with the tones I'm getting from it.

I've been subscribed to the Morris Youtube channel for the last couple years and have been wanting one for awhile and then I first saw this one pop up on TGP classifieds right after Thanksgiving and have been gassing hard ever since...what the hell!

Please post a full report after you get it and spend a little time with it. I'm curious what you're thoughts are on this amp. I literally messaged the seller on TGP maybe 5 minutes after you did. Son-of-a.... LOL! Like you, I've been very curious, was going to take the plunge, but you beat me to it. Oh well... <sigh>

I've been messing around with recording some more clips this weekend. It doesn't really warrant starting a new thread, so I figured I'd just add to the old one. I've been trying to get a recorded sound that is as close as possible to what I'm hearing in the room. There's a bit of reverb and a bit of delay in the loop, and that's it. I've added no post eq, compression etc.

This is a quick clip of the GCM 008. The first part is a Performance guitar (Aldrich Pup). Second part is a 50th Anny R0 Les Paul (Fralin Unbucker).
