Muddy bass on a Diezel 4x12 FL Cab?

Hello fellow Diezel owners :thumbsup: .

I currently run my Herbert through a Diezel 4x12 Front Loaded Cab and I tend to get very muddy bass. When I origionally baught the Cab it had Celestion K100's in which Diezel UK kindly swapped out for V30's.

My current EQ settings on CH2 are:

Gain: 2 o'clock
Volume: 12 o'clock
Treb: 2 o'clock
Mid: 11 o'clock
Bass: 1 o'clock

Mid Cut [On]:
Intensity: 2 o'clock
Level: 2 o'clock

Presence: 2 o'clock
Deep: 1 o'clock

Would you expect very muddy bass from these settings? Or might I have a problem with the speakers/wiring?

Looking forward to your comments.

Stuart.

Highly depends on the axe & pickups you plug into your amp.

... & strings too.

If that's your LP Standard with stock PUs I'd expect it to be muddy.

Hi Again,

Thanks for your comments!

I have attached a recording of some chuggy stuff and you can hear the typical muddyness I get.

Regards,

Stuart.

Lower Treb to 1:00, Bass to 12:00. Lower Pres to 1:00, Deep to 12:00. Drop Mid-Cut intensity to 11:00. That should tighten it up. I can't run my Bass or Deep above noon, or it gets overly bassy.

I tried the settings recommended and it is still getting very muddy. I also tried a friends guitar as he has Barenuckle Nail Bomb pickups in his guitar...still muddy.

Any other suggestions?

I like to get a scooped sound with the mid-cut, so are there any cabs out there that will handle the bass a lot better, like the Diezel Rear Loaded, Mesa Rectifier etc?

Stu.

I own Rectifier 4x12 & 2x12 & neither have any problems with low end, however I still don't think it's your cabinet's fault.

Are you sure your cab works properly?

sorry to hi-jack, but nbarts - can you post some pics of that LP in your avatar.

I have gas for a Black LP :thumbsup: It looks like it may be the Edwards LP I'd want. How do you like it?

@Nbarts
I won a Edwards 98LTC (nitro, like Deusentried, but with gold hardware and pickups) on Ebay. Would arrive this week.

@Deusentrieb
Did you change pickups and hardware on the 98?

@Topicstarter
Sorry. :aww:

Jamie runs Nailbombs into his Herbert and he doesn't sound muddy at whatever tuning he uses... although he uses the front loaded cab last I saw. But yeah, best advice, call Jamie! :yes:

Guitarstu, do you run 6L6 tubes on your Herbert?
Maybe you should run EL34's.

I've had the same problem once with a Rectifier. Changed the 6L6 for EL34, solved my problem. (and from that day only EL34 in my amps, now VH4)

I have vintage white of the same model, a black one is in the mail ;)
My 98LTC is the most used guitar while recording, killer tone. I like it stock a lot, but that's probably because I'm more into Tool like tones, still this guitar can pull off a lot of tyles. As for the craftsmanship - I find it kicks major butt.

Thanks for the link to the pics.

The one negative thing I've read about the Edwards was the quality of the inlays. I've read where people said they looked alittle cheap. I'm thinking they are similar to my old LTD MH-1000 pearloid inlays. What do you think?

This is with my old computer mic that I thought was broken so I just chugged out some chords to see if it still worked, it's at about a medium volume and actually gets tighter when it gets louder, I have no way to record it full volume and I don't even have the computer mic anymore, but long story short this is a Bogner Standard v30, which is one of the chewiest cabs on the planet, so I imagine you have too many mids cut. You should try bumpin' the actual mids up and lowering the bass to 12:30.

Later on,

-Nick

P.S. Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Hi All,

Thank you for your comments.

Unfortunately, I am young and not as experienced with my gear as a lot of you are so your opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated. :thumbsup:

I spoke with James from Diezel-UK back in November. However, I am still waiting for him to come back to me :aww: . I will have to chase him up again.

My thoughts were that the Cab is maybe not voiced for the type of tone I want to get from my Herbert.
