Can anyone compare these two? Looking for comparisons in low end, compression, and mid response/voicing.

I have swapped new sensor Mullards and SED's between my Camerons. I find the SED's tighter and clearer, sweet top end, and punchier. The Mullards seam to have more sag, not as clear, maybe thicker in the mids....It's splitting hairs man, but I much prefere the SED's with the Camerons. I can't speak for other amps though. except for the Mark Boogies. I like the SED's the most in them too. I have changed to SED's from other tubes though (not just Mullards), and the SED's allways make the amp come to life IMO.

Hope it helps

i've only tried a duet of the Mullard in my little 40watt 1x12, so maybe not a very good comparison.

but going off of that, i'd say the Mullard are maybe more mid focused than the =C= without as much lowend.

having them in the little amp, didn't make me want to try them in a head anyways.

the =C= is a tough act to follow for my ears, great low end and pretty balanced everywhere else

The SED's were hands down the best EL34's I tried in my old VHT 100/CL. I'm about to get a Splawn shipped to me with the Mullards. I'm debating on whether or not to just go ahead and order some more SED's since I know I love them. But I've never tried the Mullards. I guess I should just give them a fair shake first.

To me, the SED's sounded fuller and a bit smoother/more compressed than all the other EL34's I tried.

if you don't have a Biasrite, might be worth it for you to get one. Scott sent my amp out biased pretty cold, and have heard others claim the same.

so guessing it won't be long and you'll want to mess around with the bias settings?

for me, i'd like to have had my Quickrod voiced a little higher up with the mid focus, so maybe the Mullards will be good for the mids in your Comp.? guessing you might miss the SED's low end though?

anyways, might be worth getting SED's and a Biasrite if you don't have one. then you'd be able to mess around while you've got the chassis out?

I'll NEVER be without a Biasrite again.

My latest Jose modded Cameron came with re-issued Mullard EL-34's in it, and it rocked. However, upon putting SED's in it, the amp REALLY came to life and was even more tight and punchy.

SED EL-34's seem to be the answer
