MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe... Low Volume in Loop

Hey all,

Is it just me and my pesky parallel loop? I can't seem to get a descent volume out of my newly acquired MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe... I had the same problem with the original Carbon Copy... the mix knob only takes the mix to 50/50 wet/dry... and with the TC Flashback 2, I got HUGE levels of delay... and this was BEFORE using the kill/dry switch.

I don't like the kill dry when trying to run multiple pedals in series...

I'm about ready to go back to racks!!!! :)

Anyone else find this to be the case when running the MXR Delays in a loop? It's good, it's present, it's just not as much there as the TC FB... maybe I should trade it for an Alter Ego?

Any and all info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had this issue the analog delays; had the Carbon Copy and the Vapor Trail. For me, it came down to a few things:

1) Some of my loops required the master volume to be turned up to almost gig volumes.

2) The Carbon and Vapor Trail were dark, because they analog in the loop. I put in my Boss digital delay in my loop and the repeats were louder, crisper, clearer, etc.

I too thought my loop was meant for rack fx, but it turns out it just need a little bit of Master volume and a digital delay. ...Mostly, it needed the digital delay.

Some people like dark analog repeats in the loop and some don't: I don't. ...I would say this why you liked the Flashback in your loop: it's digital.

Hope this helps. Try the Flashback again and see if that makes the difference.

I appreciate the info!

I traded the FB... and I did love it, but I remembered the CCD having a very nice 'feel' to it... dammit... it does feel nice, I just can't hear it!

Even if I use just the CCD and line level and the kill/dry switch, it's just not that fucking loud... ugh...

The FB was SO close to having that sound/feel of analog...

Don't know what you got, until it's gone...

My ISP Impression has a very analog sounding delay as well... very dark and rich and out of the way, but it's got a separate dry and effect level, so I can get what I need...

Hmmmmm.... wonder how difficult it is to make it series.... ugh...

Easy for a decent amp tech. Shouldn't cost you much at all

^^^^^ This... all the tech really needs to do is remove the mixer section between the send and return. Of course, there's a little more to it than that (making sure it's using the correct shorting jacks so the signal passed directly to the return when nothing's plugged in, etc.), but it is a really simple mod.

I'm with Zachman on this... seems to me you'd have the results you want with a serial loop.

I'll check into it...

In the morning, I'm going to switch the CCD to LINE input, plug it in from the line out on my Theta Rack Preamp, into the powered cab and see what the mix sounds like. If that works better, I might keep it...

I'm almost ready to sell all the pedals and the board and go back to a nice simple Lexicon unit!!! :)

Well, might be done with pedals... found a few great ones, and then it seemed I needed to get a few more things constantly (EQ or a buffer, more patch cables, bigger board, etc)... what a lovely rabbit hole!

Flipped the line/instrument switch, took the line out from my Theta to the pedal, to the powered cab... sounded great, just couldn't hear it... still very low... even threw it out front again on the clean channel... still nice, could hear it a little bit more, it's just so 'behind' the original signal... I guess the TC Flashback spoiled me... and the Impression, since I can really balance how I want with the separate dry/wet knobs...

I just posted all my pedal stuff in CL... maybe if it all goes I'll invest in a nice older Lexicon unit and just be done with it!

Thanks again for the info....

Even if you do-- IF you still have that parallel loop-- you won't be able to maximize your fx

^^^^^^

Depending on how I route... if I stay with just the Combo using send/returns, maybe not (although, like you said, the digital effects might work better).

But, if I use the send on the Combo, to a Lexicon (I'm dreaming), to the powered 2x12, I can raise or lower the volume of the cab and get a nice blend... I was doing that with the TC pedals, it was the CCD that never got up there...

Thanks again!

I never suggested that digital fx might work better. Doesn't matter how you route, w/ a parallel loop you will NEVER get the fx to have maximum impact--because you will always have dry signal present-- even w/ the effects set to 100% wet.

Whoops... it was an earlier post...

Thanks again!

:)

I was taking about using gear designed to handle line level signal vs instrument level pedals, but that is not limited to digital. ;)
