What's your take on the MXR EVH Flanger? Like it? Hate it? Just wondering how many use it and what the consensus is...

Thanks

Its F'n 18 volts so eats up batteries or takes up 2 plugs and special cable($10) for your PP2+ other than that its a flanger with a EVH setting and EVH pattern. Its Ok :)

I like it, i think its pretty decent.

Im trying to sell mine but only because i wanna try a couple other pedals.

Personally I bought that and the EVH Phaser, it has huge tone sucking issues. I placed it in the loop of my Einstein along other Mxr pedals.

I found the carbon copy to have the least tone suck and the flanger and phaser to have the most... I do not think the EVH button is anything more than a dialed flanger setting that you can nail on pretty much any normal flanger. The design and build quality is really nice and sold me though, but I wouldn't buy it again....

Try the PAul Gilbert Airplane Flanger
+1 on this. It looks and sounds awesome. I'm jonesing for one myself. Really never use flanger effects but the Airplane mode fx sounds killer.

I like it & the tone suck isn't too bad. I agree, it's nothing you can't get out of other flangers, the EVH switch is just the appropriate settings to dial in the "Unchained" sound. If you play alot of VH it might be nice to have as you can set the dials for other songs and then hit the EVH switch for unchained without having to twiddle knobs. All in all a good box.

i like it, and like the Unchained button. my settings are deferent, and button gives a quick change.

i wanted soooooooooooooo much to like this flanger, but was let down. i guess its alright, but not what i was waiting for :(

Sounds good, looks cool (imo), sounds pretty close to the original 117 w/ the AC power cable (the one I use), built solidly.

Greetings, sir :)
What are you using to power it?

I can't get it to sound good..but I think that's me...
That makes me a little nervous. I need someone with a good ear to help me dial-in my rig. If anyone can take something good and make it sound like ass - it's me!

It sucks a bit of tone if you're taking the all true-bypass approach. If you have a buffer earlier in the chain then the tone suck is moot. Same deal with the Phase 90.

As for mine, I like it... but I have no use for it. Maybe some day.

Thanks
I'll be using it on a rack shelf connected to a GCX switcher and I'll be able to switch it in or out using a Ground Control Pro. Tone suck shouldn't be an issue in that scenario, right?

As for powering it, I need to start a thread to discuss the merits of the Pedal Power vs. a One Spot. There is a substantial difference in price and I'm only going to have 5 pedals in the rack (the rest of the effects are rack mount units...). Need to know the pros and cons of the two devices to make a decision...

Thanks
I wouldn't say I was chasing the EVH flange tone, but truth be told, VH and similar songs are the ones I'd be most likely to play. I guess I'm just looking for a decent all-around flange effect that can also cop the VH tone...

Mine is the original w/ an AC power cable attached.
