Im thinking about picking one of these up to use as a "always on" boost. Im hoping it will give me some extra ummmphh and sparkle and push channel 2 in my renegade to some higher gain territory. Anyone familiar with it? Thoughts?

Wow, the world of clean boosts. There must be a million of them. Hard to say. I bought one when they first came out. 1982? Those were killer but I have no idea how the new ones compare.

The Micro Amp is great at what it does, and it's cheap.

The new MXR CAE is supposed to be great too.

Try an EP Booster by Xotic. Run it at 18v and hold on

Can you elaborate on what differences you here at 18V? I like mine too, great little box.

Been using the Microamp for 20 yrs. Simple, effective and sounds good.

I run mine right after my BB Preamp, when trying 9v vs 18v I found that at 18v it seemed to be a bit more open sounding..sorta like what I hear when I have an amp with 1/2 power switch. I leave the dip switches at the factory setting.

Makes sense. Most reports on using pedals at 18 volts basically improves the headroom, hence opening up the sound. I'll have to try it. I don't have a 18 V power supply, and all 8 of my slots are taken on my board. Time for a second Pedal Power and a Pedal Train Pro! :D

Try a Fulltone Fatboost. They're great at the end of a chain before an egnater. Give's you that extra kick in the rear when you want it without messin' with the good thing you've already got going. I use mine in front of a Rebel 20 for leads. A little more cash than a Micro amp but I managed to find one on ebay for $105. The micro amp was my second option which I'd still like to give a go to satisfy my GAS.

Based on the review in Premier Guitar, the Creation Audio Labs Holy Fire sounds like a real
contender. 48volts!

Hi,

I use an mxr microamp in the fx loop of my Rebel 20 to give a boost for leads. It is fantastic as it just pushes the power tubes a bit more without over saturating my main sound from the pre amp.
Can't recommend it enough.

UN
