so i tried a lot of different preamp tubes in my einstein yesterday.
always v1,v2,v3
i used an esp with emg´s and a marshall 1960 , keep that in mind.

1.i tried all of them highgrade tad 7025
2.mixed with 12xa7c tad, only 12ax7c
3.and all ruby hg+ and hg , meaning the original set up

1.the 7025 were way too full and warm, without outstanding highs and dynamics, you can forget the cleans ! way to bassy and fat
2.the 12ax7-c were way to harsh, fizzy and skinny.
the combination of 12ax7-c with 7025 was..OK but nothing great

all the time i was missing the great diezel roar und cutting tone
i played the 7025 for a half year and had just forgotten about the rubys

3.when i throwed them in i was blown again. i was so thankfull cause i had my diezel sound back, awesome clean, great attack , not to compressed. a pitty that i didnt realized this earlier.

TO SUM IT UP: peter is a genius and knows best of all what sounds the best.

if you like and love THE diezel sound, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR TUBES or you get really sad ;)

so my question for all you guys: did someone try the very very expensive GT6550-R and the GT 12ax7c? im thinking about retubing my marshall but that would be a fucking 400 €.

i never liked Groove Tubes for anything except for putting them in something i was selling to keep the good tubes. always sounded like crap & had tons of failures. Maybe just my luck.

If you are going for 6550s could i recommend the SED Winged Cs. Super reliaable!!

I have changed out my preamp tubes after playing for two years on my Einstein with the stock tubes that it came with.
While I like the tubes that Peter chooses to put into the amps, after playing them for a good long while, I desire a change. I am not a fan at all of Groove Tube anything as a replacement tube.

I have gone to NOS tubes from European companies whose tube sounds I prefer and have great luck in making my Einstein sound great for what I wanted from it.

I am using different pickups from what the OP is stating he uses, and I am probably trying for a different tone from my Einstein then the OP is desiring.

Hey, it's all good.
