100% agreed. Its very particular about the guitar. I dont love it as a rock module or with humbucks, but with single coils for a hot blues thing it is to die for. Ive got Jasons right now while Im waiting for the one from Russ to arrive and it has totally inspired my playing in a new way. The dynamics and richness of tone with single coils is beyond words. I didnt love it when I tried it before but I was playing it all wrong. When you play to its strengths, it is unreal. More than any other module, when its in my MOD 50, it feels and sounds like a completely different amp and I just love it.
Actually, I really like it with humbuckers too, but not set at all the same as with my single coil equipped guitars. It has to be tweaked to each guitar. In fact, it's not just humbucker or single coil specific, it needs to be set up for
each guitar. If I'm using my Melancon Pro Artist (3 Fralin Vintage Hot single coils), it gets tweaked one way; Anderson Atom (2 M1 mini humbuckers and 1 H2 humbucker in the bridge), a different way; Mcinturff Taurus (2 Zodiac humbuckers), a different way; Myka Classic (2 Fralin PAFs), a different way. I like them all, but it does need to be tweaked for each guitar individually...it plays to each guitar's voice.
I also find that, where other modules can do a lot of things real well, the COD is more narrow-minded. It's not really a one-trick-pony, per se, but it's certainly not like some of the other modules where a few tone knob twists and you get a totally different, but also great, flavor. With the COD, if it's not dialed in right on the tone knobs, it can sound pretty crappy. But when it
is dialed in, it's just
there. In other words, what it does, it does
really well. And there's still some range of tones there, because I can still use my guitar's volume and tone knobs and use the bright and bass switches to get some great tonal variations once the actual tone knobs are dialed in...that's why I say it's not that it's just a one trick pony, because it does still have some room to play with. But it's not as broad as some of the other modules. It does the "smoky blues" thing unbelievably well.
