I been noticing my amp sounds very choked in tone lately. It sounds very mid-range muffled. Especially in ch1 mode 2 (my main channel). it also has a weird breakup before distortion... So I switched preamp tubes first... No better. Then on to my 2nd set of power tubes in 2 months... Still no good. So today I opened her up and took some pictures. From the looks of it I have some leaking caps :(

That stuff under the caps is suppose to be there, it cushions the caps from vibration and holds them in place while soldering. However you do have two filter caps with actual leaks which are the 500v 22uf caps. Those need to be replaced.

EDIT: Images 042 and 044 so you know which I'm talking about.

Thank you.. I'm so used to seeing hot glue under components instead of the yellow stuff. I was sure those 2 were leaking, but i just got paranoid because my baby is sick.

EDIT: I noticed the caps say "RUBY" so I looked @ magic part's website. My dad owns a guitar shop and we're setup with them... Is this the exact part?

Parts Express has the Ruby Golds, I think they're junk though, I don't know if they have fixed them since but they had a huge problem with a stolen/incomplete electrolytic recipe that the Diezel's unfortunately got some of them. Last I heard Diezel was using Illinois Capacitors (IC) now because of the issues they had with them anyway. I was told that over a year ago though so I wouldn't hold to it. Either way they're great caps. F&T are good caps as are the Sprague Atoms(these are rated at 20uf but work just the same), there's a few others that are good too. Any 500v 22uf electrolytic cap will work just fine, the guy doing the work should have some or a way to get some pretty quick.

If you want what Diezel is using just get in touch with Terry(Duolos) at Diezel USA and he could get you some replacements quick like.

Later on,

Those are them.

Should I just get all the Ruby caps replaced then? I have no problem doing so. In fact I think I might. Thanks for your help. I'll try to get what Diezel is currently using.

Just replace the 2 that need to be replaced & buy a spare one for the future. It's a 5 minute job, just be careful, don't shock yourself. The only advice I have for you is not cutting the plastic wrap or whatever it is around the caps. Just remove the old ones & slide the new ones in, it holds them tight & makes the soldering process so much easier.
