Doctor Love
I finally got to try the IK Multimedia Tonex Pedal and make a video on it! That's the good news. And as soon as I sent it back to zZounds, IK Multimedia did an update for the Tonex that addresses some of the shortcomings I mentioned in my video. That's great for Tonex users but sucks for me! Anyhoo, I take you through some of the coolest features and presets then wire it up with my pedalboard and use the Tonex as a rig!
This was the first time I've ever used a profiler vs a modeler and I'm now a believer!
Maybe Santa will bring me one for Christmas!??
Have a great weekend and Celebrate Mediocrity!

I have been very impressed with ToneX. More than I thought I would be. I tried the free plugin one day, now I own all their software, have an IK interface, and a ToneX One, lol.

I scratched ToneX off my list since the unit is not self contained. So much easier with either the Cortex or Kemper units and I don't already have an interface or personal computer to run the necessary software.

I'd love to try one if they come out with a self contained pedal/rack thing.

I used to think the same thing, but then one day I realized that ToneX the software is really the product. It is a software product first. The pedals are just capture players for what you do in the software.

Once I accepted that I rolled with it. If it was not designed as software first, I wouldn't have spent the money on the pedals.

Yeah. I think I'm just the other side of the market. I don't have a recording interface or personal computer beyond an Apogee thing and an iPad, so ToneX would require me to invest in a lot of stuff to just get the software. Whereas I can just use a Kemper right away. But most people into a profiler probably already have that stuff.

Yeah, I said the same things at first. I am a big Fractal fan, and one reason why is because you can edit directly on the unit. That is more future-proof than software based solutions. However, I think ToneX is different as it is software-first, designed to be part of the Amplitube ecosystem. I am not sure I see the point of getting the pedals if you aren't looking to get into the Amplitube ecosystem within your DAW.

It has definitely changed how I think about things, and I have been playing through my computer more now than I have in a long time. It has even helped me go back and dial in my Fractal stuff better for direct tones.

Actually, the ToneX software has a free version. That is how I started, I just thought I would give it a try. You don't even need the pedals. I use it through the computer 97% of the time. I have a ToneX One pedal, but haven't made much use of it yet.

I don't want to talk about the first time I got profiled...

Yeah in all honesty I didn't have the time to spend with it but there are already so many in depth videos on it, that it was a lost cause. I was stoked to finall try one though!
Of course you know I was joking right Brother Alan?

Was just speaking in your much-vaunted vernacular bud.

Lol celebrate mediocrity. That might be a catch phrase but seems accurate here.

I want something like a quad cortex where I can capture my amps as my emergency plan E. And capture my cabs with ir stuff.

I'm glad their good enough for musicians to use on the road and satisfy their audience. I'm glad younger folks have options. But man. I wish there was something profiler, modeler or ir/frfr that did it for me.
