Hey folks!

I've been a rig talk lurker for a while, and decided to join in because the two notes forum is here.

Just got the CAB this morning, and I ended up spending the whole evening re-wiring what was my 'secondary' board for one guitar/one board rig.

Plugged it in into a PA system... man it sounded so awesome.

Looking forward to testing out new IR profiles :D

Best new gear I've had in a while this little thing!

Careful... Hughes & Kettner gets no love here...

I am not a big fan of the lead channel, but clean works very well alone and with other pedals, maybe the best best clean tone I got with a pedal preamp.

I am curious regarding how much variation the CAB IRs have on a good tube preamp such as ADA MP1.

As a practice Rig I have used a very good ADA MP 1 into the CAB IRs of a POD XT with surprisingly good
results, and the.different IRs can change the tones quite a bit.

Obviously the CAB IRs are a big step up, do the different CAB IRs radically change the Tones going from a

1 X 12 to a 2 X 12 to a 4 X 10 etc. or are the differences mostly subtle when using just a Preamp ?

With a good Tube Pre and the CAB , do we get almost the versatility of the best modelers but of course tubes tones ?

I have the old Black.Tubeman Pedal which is somewhat warmer I'm told than the Silver Version but the tone

especially the mid to higher gain tones were MUCH better when I used a JJ 803 s much clearer gain and
Smoothed out the Diode Clipping to much more of a tube sound .

The speaker simulation part of a modeling system is one of the most underestimated and important of the overall process.

Try our WoS III plugin if you want to try those differences yourself, I think there are some videos showing the different presets of a VB-101 or Torpedo Live.

I am not the biggest fan of the H&K either - but it's great and versatile for what it is :)

I'd say the CAB is a heap of an improvement from the rig plugged direct in without the CAB!

Different cabs, speakers, and mics have a tremendous effect on the final tone, more so than the amps themselves in most cases.

A real strength of the Torpedos for this usage is their tube power amp sims, which are needed when using preamps if you're looking to duplicate tube amp tones etc.

Yes, with real tube tone which no modeler has truly duplicated in all facets yet (that's not to say that the top end modeler don't sound great, but they don't sound exactly like tube amps, especially in their sustain/decay portions of the sound envelope).

Apart from the Kemper - I've got to say! I had the kemper for a while and man it was awesome. Just too much gear for my use

There are things that the KPA and Axe II don't do yet, especially in their sustain/decay portions of the sound envelope with edge of break-up through pushed mid-gain tones via single notes and double stops.

That said they do sound great in their own right, and many would prefer them to real tube stuff anyways.

Yes I was telling someone the same thing about the older Black Tubeman Pedal I have, which can't footswitch
between the Channels like yours but is more tweakable and warmer sounding...with gain and liw mid boost available even on the Clean Channel.

You might want to pop in a JJ803s Tube to see if it makes the OD Tones more clear like it did on mine.
