Not sure what you guys do on yours but I was checking out my settings and trying to 'tweak' but honestly.........

I have EVERYTHING SET AT NOON!
Well not the master volume...
It sounds so damn good. Presence.....deep...Bass Treble Mids.....all noon.

Same here. May adjust gain & mid a bit depending upon the room.

Its weird since all the other amps I have owned thru the years I had to crank the Treble and bass and take out a little mids and the presence was usually high as well.
The only thing I do mess with like mentioned is the Gain....maybe a notch or 2 either way pending on the song being played.
But everything is usually running straight up at noon. ;)

Everything is at noon on my VH-4, I adjust gain, mid, and presence depending on the venue we are playing, and whether or not I'm playing mic'd or not, like you said, first amp I've owned (obviously other then the Herbert) where I usually keep everything at noon. With other amps I will set everything to noon and tweak from there, but with the Diezels, I put everything to noon, hit my first chord, and never felt the need to touch anything!!

Glad you are still loving the Herbert man!!!

I also keep the eq + deep/pres around noon. gain varies, on 2+ its only a notch below noon on 3 its like 10.30.

I'm curious where other Herbert users balance their volumes. Do you leave the channel low and do everything with the master the other way around or sth in between. I started off with chanvol around 9 and master to taste but ever since Herbie has been to his dad for some tweaks I prefer the chanvol a bit higher (like 10.30) and then adjust the master.

When I owned my Herbert (and I also do this with my VH-4) I always kept the channel volumes at 10:30, except for the clean channel, and used the master volume from there, typically for the average show where I am mic'd up to the PA, I will have my channel volumes at 10:30, and my master will be around 9 or 10... if I'm playing an un-mic'd show I tend to run the master a bit higher...

The Herbert does sound better then the VH-4 at ear shattering volumes... thought playing THAT loud (channel and masters past 1 o'clock) is never necessary for men, but fun as hell every once in awhile!!!

I am also interested in this discussion. Just started to experiment with the channel + master vol in different combinations, but I can only do this once a week when we have band practice...

I run the channel volume high. About noon as well and then adjust the amp off the Master volume. sounds good to me!

I like to run the master at 2: and the channel at 9:00.

2+
Gain: 11
volume:2
treble: 10
middle: 3
bass: 10

mid-cut

This is how I've been running mine lately except the bass a little higher.
I really like how it sounds with the channel volume cranked up and the gain backed off.
I set it up pretty much the same on channel 3 for solo's.
I put 4 kt88's in it recently with 2 el34's
Even at low volumes I get a nice feedback/sustain when holding a note for a few seconds.
I can't imagine being happier with any other amp than this one.

The same to me, only minor adjustment, no one tone knobs above 1/1,30.
Only gain in ch2+ at 2 sometimes even at 3..with midcut intensity 11 level 1..very brutal but open sounding!

Ch1:
treble: 2:00
middle: noon
bass: 12:30
Mid Cut: on

Ch2+:
Gain: dimed
volume: 1:00
treble: 3:00
middle:2:00
bass:11:30
mid cut: on

Ch3:
gain:2:00
volume: 1:00
treble: 3:00
middle: 2:00
bass: noon
mid cut: on

Mid Cut is always on for all channels, always. For me, it's what makes the Herbert sound so good.
Intensity: noon
level: 2:00

Presence: 11:30
Deep: 11:00-12:30, this is the only knob I change and it's changed depending on how bassy the current guitar being used is.
